Add Sticky NoteIn many ways, it is exhausting to think about a participatory society that is shaped by the ability to navigate and interact with hyper speed information flow, create and maintain networks, embrace the notion of sharing, engage in creation, live in a continuous state of partial attention, and actively socialize in various spaces across multiple identities.
- So exhausting that many of those who have the option of saying "not me" will take it. - on 2009-04-29

I’m not convinced this will fundamentally shift education if we continue to retrofit these tools instead of embracing the philosophy of participatory and connective learning.

Ideas and Thoughts from an EdTech » THIS is a 21st Century Skill
The title of this blog post is THIS is a 21st Century Skill. The author discusses the fact that the ability to make a comprehensible, on-message, and appealing video is becoming a literacy. Is this new? No, not the communication piece, but the medium is new as a universal. Essentially, everyone is a commercial director and the product is yourself.

Kim Cofino writes this blog. Her job title is 21st Century Literacy Specialist at the International School Bangkok in Thailand. I've been a fan of hers for a while--this post is one that she reminded me of on my blog post titled "Meeting is not collaborating." Kim's writing is strong and enjoyable to read--she's a good example of the slope of journalism Clay Shirky discusses.

Idea Lab - Becoming Screen Literate - NYTimes.com
This is about how screen literacy is edging print technology aside. Some discussion of how they are merging. Very interesting section on how it is much easier to consume media than to create it, but that is changing. I would say it isn't changing as much overall, although it is for movie based media. What is changing is the idea that anyone can make a movie. It used to be anyone could write a book.
Contemporary Literacy in Idaho
David Warlick's introduction to a workshop on literacy. I personally agree completely that 21st century literacy is just literacy. It just so happens that literacy matters more than ever.
