    Abstract

This paper presents a simple but accurate method to calculate shell side heat transfer coefficient in a single segmental shell and tube heat exchanger. The method is based on a chart which is a product of actual data taken over a span of several years. The calculation procedure is presented with a case study. The results are compared with known methods and commercial/proprietary computer codes prevalent in the industry. The results from this method compare well with HTRI computer program. This method can prove to be a helpful tool for design engineers in the field.

    Abstract

In a computer-based design, many thousands of alternative exchanger configurations may be examined. Computer codes for design are organized to vary systematically the exchanger parameters such as, shell diameter, baffle spacing, number of tube-side pass to identify configurations that satisfy the specified heat transfer and pressure drops. A computer-based design model was made for preliminary design of shell-and-tube heat exchangers with single-phase fluid flow both on shell and tube side. The program covers segmentally baffled U-tube, and fixed tube sheet heat exchangers one-pass and two-pass for tube-side flow. The program determines the overall dimensions of the shell, the tube bundle, and optimum heat transfer surface area required to meet the specified heat transfer duty by calculating minimum or allowable shell-side pressure drop.

Journal: Computer Standards & Interfaces

  • Description

The quality of software, well-defined interfaces (hardware and software), the process of digitalisation, and
accepted standards in these fields are essential for building and exploiting complex computing, communication, multimedia and
measuring systems. Standards can simplify the design and construction of individual hardware and software components and help to
    ensure satisfactory interworking.

COMPUTER STANDARDS & INTERFACES is an international journal dealing specifically
    with these topics.

    The journal
    • provides information about activities and progress on the definition of
computer standards, software quality, interfaces and methods, at national, European and international levels
    • publishes
critical comments on standards and standards activities
    • disseminates user's experiences and case studies in the
application and exploitation of established or emerging standards, interfacess and methods
    • offers a forum for discussion
on actual projects, standards, interfaces and methods by recognised experts
    • stimulates relevant research by providing a
    specialised refereed medium.

Delphi and Pascal Programming Tutorials Table of Contents

  • This site offers write-ups of how to do specific
things in Delphi or Pascal. Feel free to use them in programming
courses, but a credit of the source would be appreciated. Speaking of
which... the following was a great help to my own programming:
'Borland Delphi How-To', from the Waite Group, by Frerking, Wallace
and Niddery, ISBN 1-57169-019-0. Its approach suited my needs, and
helped inspire the form of these tutorials: Most are a self-contained
explanations of how to accomplish a specific task, or use a particular
    component of the language.

Journal: Computers & Fluids

  • Description

Computers & Fluids is multidisciplinary. The term 'fluid' is interpreted in the broadest
sense. Hydro- and aerodynamics, high-speed and physical gas dynamics, turbulence and flow stability, multiphase flow, rheology,
tribology and fluid-structure interaction are all of interest, provided that computer technique plays a significant role in the
associated studies or design methodology. Applications will be found in most branches of engineering and science: mechanical, civil,
chemical, aeronautical, medical, geophysical, nuclear and oceanographic. These will involve problems of air, sea and land vehicle
motion and flow physics, energy conversion and power, chemical reactors and transport processes, ocean and atmospheric effects and
pollution, biomedicine, noise and acoustics, and magnetohydrodynamics amongst others. The development of numerical methods relevant
to fluid flow computations, computational analysis of flow physics and fluid interactions and novel applications to flow systems and
to design are pertinent to Computers & Fluids.

Journal: International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer

  • Description

International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer serves as a world forum for the rapid dissemination of new ideas, new
measurement techniques, preliminary findings of ongoing investigations, discussions, and criticisms in the field of heat and mass
transfer. Two types of manuscript will be considered for publication: communications (short reports of new work or discussions of
work which has already been published) and summaries (abstracts of reports, theses or manuscripts which are too long for publication
in full). Together with its companion publication, International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, with which it shares the
same Board of Editors, this journal is read by research workers and engineers throughout the world.
