England Rugby Fitness
It is interesting to see Martin Johnson\'s comments on the England team''s fitness after their Calcutta match on Saturday. I have been saying this to the young players I work with for a few years, my aim is to train them to beat the All Blacks, not to lie at the bottom of a ruck in 2nd division rugby.
Body Type: Can You Morph?
Well I kinda gave away what this post is about right off of the bat. We are all blessed or cursed (depends on how you see it) with a natural body type. This largely due to our genetics (thanks mom and dad) and is something that is pretty much irreversible. There are three different body types classified as Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph. For most of us, mesomorph is ideal and pretty much the entire reason we hit the gym week in and out. Although we cannot reverse the way we were born and decide to come out a mesomorph, can we change it?
Mental skills personal experiment (4): Back on track
This is the third day I follow the whole plan, including breathing exercises, meditation, zhan zhuan and the scheduled workout. The first day is always a bit hard after I stop for more than a week, but I believe it is pretty much like training in general: people who have practiced before have some sort of “practical memory” and they recover their ability fast. In strength training, people have different (yet not sanctioned by the scientific community) names for this: muscle memory, neural memory and others.
Mental skills personal experiment (3)
Blurred vision, no appetite, extreme fatigue and mental confusion are only some of the symptoms. I only know I am hungry when my head feels heavy and I can’t move – some weird hypoglycemic reaction to heat. Have no idea why.

Rugby fitness training: A scientific approach
Rugby union was traditionally played by amateurs who trained like amateurs. Since the advent of professionalism which has trickled down throughout the sport it is now common to see rugby players training in their own time. Aerobic training - How hard do I need to go for results?
The most fundamental key to aerobic activities is getting out of breath. It is essential you examine your exercise to see if it is achieving this. In my experience I have met many people who do hours of swimming but never get even slightly out of breath, or play hours of tennis but say to me they cannot lose weight.
A holistic approach to weight loss
We all talk of losing weight but please note it is fat you are trying to lose. If you are just monitoring yourself on the scales it is very easy to become disheartened with minimal changes even though you are getting results because the inches are shrinking!
The only way to try and lose 'weight' is using an approach that covers all bases of your health and produces long lasting results.
