Intelligence Improperly Collected on U.S. Citizens - NYTimes.com
-
In March 2008, the office produced a “terrorism watch list” report about a Muslim conference in Georgia at which several Americans were scheduled to speak, even though it “did not have any evidence the conference or the speakers promoted radical extremism or terrorist activity,” and such speech is constitutionally protected, an internal report said.
-
In a 2007 report, top security agency officials said “intelligence oversight training is not managed effectively” at the N.S.A. and called procedures regarding training “confusing.”

The Anti-Liberty Conservative - The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan
-
Kathleen Parker uncritically quotes Rick Santorum calling himself a "limited government" conservative.
-
He declared himself against individualism, against libertarianism,
against “this whole idea of personal autonomy, . . . this idea that
people should be left alone.” Andrew Sullivan [in 2006] directed our attention
to a television interview in which the senator from the home state of
Benjamin Franklin and James Wilson denounced America’s Founding idea of
“the pursuit of happiness.” If you watch the video, you can hear these
classic hits: “This is the mantra of the left: I have a right to do
what I want to do” and “We have a whole culture that is focused on
immediate gratification and the pursuit of happiness . . . and it is
harming America.”Parker says that Santorum is “sometimes referred to as the
conscience of Senate Republicans.” Really? By whom? Surely not by
Reaganites, or by people who believe in limited government.
Matthew Yglesias » Max Boot’s Anti-Desegregationism
-
Searching around in the book you can tell that Boot is a cut above your standard-issue conservative since he has the good sense to recognize that the entire “activism” controversy was spawned not in some rights of the accused case, but rather in the Supreme Court’s decision to rule that school segregation was illegal in the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education decision.
-
But of course Boot, being a contemporary conservative rather than a 1950s or 60s conservative, isn’t a white supremacist at all. He even goes so far as to concede that “the result is one we can all applaud.” He’s just more upset by the prospects of courts overturning the demographically expressed will of a herrenvolk democracy that denied its black citizens the right to vote in order to better be able to oppress them with the systematic application of terrorist violence than he is by the apartheid regime itself.

Shocker for conservatives: Obama may not hate the Constitution - War Room - Salon.com
-
[T]he Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy.
-
As a bit of basic research would have shown Limbaugh, Obama didn't technically write a thesis at Columbia -- at the time, Columbia didn't really have senior theses -- though he did write a thesis-length paper. But it was on Soviet nuclear disarmament, not the Constitution.

Al Franken reads the Fourth Amendment to DoJ official at PATRIOT Act hearings - Boing Boing
The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan
-
To subject the qualifications of such assistants to congressional scrutiny -- the regular confirmation process -- would trench upon the president's inherent right, as the head of an independent and equal branch of the federal government, to seek advice and counsel where he sees fit
