TOSBack is an useful service that monitors changes in various web services' Terms of Service. Click "Subscribe to RSS" on the site to monitor it in your RSS reader (such as NetNewsWire or Google Reader). —Rick Cogley
From the site: TOSBack keeps an eye on ... website policies.
Every time one of them changes, you'll see an update here.
Pretty poorly designed website (so busy, it looks like a Japanese site), but an interesting concept nonetheless. -- Rick Cogley |
From the site: Plot your bike rides over mountains (view elevation), through the woods (topo maps), and speeding through the city (street level views) with just a few mouse clicks. Once your cycling map is complete you can quickly view it in 3D, satellite form, or share it with friends.
I hope SocialStream comes to fruition one day. This site from CMU looks like quite an interesting proposal. -- Rick Cogley
From the site: "Directed to help improve the online community orkut, the project's scope was not to simply redesign the interface. Our team considered how online social networking could bring greater value to users, especially for ages above twenty. After initial brainstorming and research, we chose to focus on the effects of a new model for online social networking: a unified social network that, as a service, provides social data to many other applications. Our user research examined needs related to online as well as offline social networking and considered how they related to a unified social network service model. Through this user research we identified a set of archetypes that represent common behavior patterns that existed across multiple study participants and also formulated a summarized list of their high level needs. "
OpenSocial is a base platform for social networking based on Google Gadgets, and in use by many sites, such as LinkedIn, Friendster, Salesforce.com or Plaxo. I was not aware that this existed, but it seems like a really good way to do things.
From the site: "The web is more interesting when you can build apps that easily interact with your friends and colleagues. But with the trend towards more social applications also comes a growing list of site-specific APIs that developers must learn.
OpenSocial defines a common API for social applications across multiple websites. With standard JavaScript and HTML, developers can create apps that access a social network's friends and update feeds. "
From the site: "Calaboration makes it easy to set up iCal to view and edit your Google Calendar calendars. It automatically finds all of your calendars and allows you to add any of them to iCal with the press of a button. "
From the Official Google Mac Blog, now GCal Google Calendar supports iCal officially, via CalDAV.
Feedburner allows you to optimize, enhance and publicize your RSS feeds. For example, if you have RSS feeds from a blog and from your Flickr photos, you can come them together by "burning" the blog feed, splicing in your Flickr photos, and then adding additional features and information to the feed to make it easier for people to use, and more interesting.
- Read "why burn" on the front page for information about the service. - Rick Cogley on 2008-12-02

Blank Canvas makes a plugin for Firefox that works in Flock too - it lets you put HTML in your Gmail signatures. Excellent!
One way of synchronizing everything. Interesting.
