the basic shot structure of the movies, the way film segments of different lengths are bundled together from scene to scene, act to act, has evolved over the years to resemble a rough but recognizably wave-like pattern called 1/f, or one over frequency — or the more Hollywood-friendly metaphor, pink noise. Pink noise is a characteristic signal profile seated somewhere between random and rigid, and for utterly mysterious reasons, our world is ablush with it.

  • Offside, directed by Jafar Panahi, is yet another remarkable film about the unequal treatment of women in Iran.

  • The right to participation in public sphere and the political process is at the heart of the Iranian women’s movement since the beginning. The politics of “veiling,” however, have been the centerpieces of not only religious but also secular legislative debates.

  • The special dress of the Iranian woman may be a vehicle for her purer presence, but it must not and should not prevent her presence.  If we accept the rule that the Muslim Iranian woman must be covered, we must at the same time, try and draw up plans so that the limits of his covering does not conceal her real identify and role.

Hitchcock often liked to tell interviewers that for him 'creation is based on an exact science of audience reactions'."' (guardian.co.uk)
