I believe there is (another eay). I believe it so strongly that for the first time in several years I am opening a new line of research. I believe (and I fully admit that it is only a belief at this point) that using technology to capture, manage, and visualize educational data in support of teacher decision making has the potential to vastly improve the effectiveness of education.
"Just Fractions" is a tool for learning about performing simple math (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction) on fractions. This program was the brainchild of my ten year old son. In addition, he wrote most of the code after picking up a book on programming that I purchased for him. The most recent enhancement to "Just Fractions" is a step by step guide on how to perform fraction math. This greatly enhances the educational value of “Just Fractions”. Just Fractions 1.4 will be released soon on the app store.
Math Seeq helps you learn about mathematical sequences in a game format. You are told what kind of sequence you are pursuing, and then you must select the proper number that is next in the sequence from a bunch of numbers that are flying (or wandering) around the screen. For example, for the powers of two level, you must select 2, then 4, 8, 16, 32 etc… There are four levels of play. You play against a timer and can save your high scores if you are adept at the game! The beginner or lowest skill level includes multiples of each integer from 1 to 9, effectively giving an elementary or middle school student a fun way to drill their times tables.

I was playing around today trying to create a visual representaion of a Digital version of the new Bloom's hierarchy. I'm either going to link the images in this illustration directly and publish on a wiki or I will come back here and provide all the links in a list format, separated by Bloom's level. If you're interested in "Digital Bloom's," you can search for "Bloom,"

There are 3 main ways in which technology can be used in education. One of them is horrible. One of them is neutral. One of them is great. One of them is used extensively. One of them is increasingly being used. One of them is not being used enough. One of them is technology being used to demonstrate an idea. One of them is using technology as a replacement for pen and paper. One of them is using technology to create.
MIT and Stanford are starting to make classes available for free online. The marginal cost of this is pretty close to zero, so it's easy for them to share. Abundant education is easy to access and offers motivated individuals a chance to learn.
Scarcity comes from things like accreditation, admissions policies or small classrooms.
The Bigwords.com app tries to find the cheapest way to buy textbooks. Whether it's one book, or a long reading list, you will save money using this app. You can also make money by using it to sell unwanted books, but being a teacher, I have a problem with that, having never re-sold or thrown away a textbook. Of course, that's just me.
A good way to explain Bigwords is to take you through the process. The Bigwords.com app lets you set a bunch of preferences, each one reducing your options a bit. You can choose books that are new only, new or used, high quality new or used, set shipping preferences, consider eBooks or rentals (along with rental terms) and whether you require a guaranteed buyback from the vendor.
