If Windows XP will start:

* Log on to Windows as an Administrator.
* Click Start, point to All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
* On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and click Next.
* Or type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box then press Enter.

This command can be used at the Safe Mode Command Prompt also.

1. Go to Control Panel | Scheduled Tasks.
2. Double-click Add Scheduled Task to launch the Scheduled Task Wizard.
3. Click Next and then click the Browse button.
4. Access the Windows\System32 folder, select Shutdown.exe, and click Open.
5. Follow the wizard through the next two screens to give the task a name and choose a schedule.
6. Enter your user account name and password and click Next.
7. Select the Open Advanced Properties check box and click Finish.
8. In the task’s Properties dialog box, add the /r parameter to the end of the command line in the Run text box and click OK. (Be sure to include a space between the last character in the command name and the first character in the parameter list.)
9. Enter your user account name and password and click OK.

2. Locate and run the WindowsXP-KB907265-x86-ENU.exe executable file to launch the MMC 3.0 installation wizard.
3. Once the installation is complete, launch the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC.
5. Right-click the MMC subkey and select New | Key.
6. Name the key UseNewUI and press [Enter].
7. Close the Registry Editor.

    As default Ubuntu has no password set for the root user. To gain root access you have to type in your own user password. This is the password you set for the first user while installing Ubuntu.


    To manually set a password for the root user, type in the following in the shell:

    sudo passwd


    After that you are asked to type in the new root password twice. Finally, your root user has its own password.
