What Is The Role of Business Intelligence in PLM? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Some thoughts about Business Intelligence (BI). I found it somewhat under-invested in Product Lifecycle Management field. BI considered as a more analytic domain with the ability to slice and dice data from the past. However, I believe, one of the capabilities PLM can offer to users (designers, engineers, manufactures…) is to improve decision based on past, current and future analysis.
Next PLM Challenge: To Connect Process and Communities « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Social is growing. During the past two years, we had seen many new topics introduced by social computing – social networks, communication, collaboration. A bunch of product were previewed, released… and already failed in this space. Enterprise 2.0 is growing as a separate and very interesting industry. The most visible social computing related movements in Product Lifecycle Management are DS Social Innovation and PTC’s Social Product Development – both pushing the power of social-network-like elements into PLM mainstream. I tried to analyze potential challenges in various aspects related to adopting of social software in Product Lifecycle Management and would like to share my thoughts and conclusions.
Freemium PLM – Yes or No? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Freemium is a business model became very popular among internet start-ups and established companies. Services like LinkedIn, Flikr and Skype are using freemium business model. If you are not familiar with this term, take a look here. Also, I’m recommending Anderson’s book.
Why do I think freemium model can be successfully applied to PLM?
Product and Process Models in PLM – What Should Come First? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Common definition of the process – “a set of activities leading to the desired outcome”. Despite on such simple and straightforward definition, implementation of processes in PLM delayed and very often lead to a significant complexity in implementation. I’d like to analyze and discover why it happens and what other factors can influence process implementation in the organization.
PLM: How Much Do We Have and to Whom it Belongs? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Extensive development of social trends and connection between social trend and product lifecycle management got me to think more about intellectual property of PLM and related product information, business process etc. How we handle it today and how we will handle it in the future? I can see three parallel trends – all of them brought me to the same question of how much PLM worth and how organizations and individuals will be able to manage it in a corporate and social ecosystem we have.
PLM Open Source: Business or Social Need? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
The following NYT article drove my attention yesterday – Open Source as a Model for Business is Elusive. I already had chance to discuss open source and PLM on plmtwine. If you just came to my blog, you can review the following posts:

3D Marketplace or Potential Content Wars « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Some thoughts around future 3D Marketplace. Few days ago, I had chance to post of future of 3D Warehouse. Thanks for Architecture+ blog picking up this topic in “Looking on 3D Marketplace” blog. Even if 3D content online is only in the early beginning, it is very interesting to think about possible evolving of 3D content in the future potential 3D marketplace. I can see few potential routes for 3D content online.
How Many Social Platforms We Need for Enterprise? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
I think, we are all crazy about a “social computing” topic. Social marketing, social communication, social platform, social content… Few latest announcements last week drove me to some thoughts about Social Platforms in enterprise. Salesforce.com announced Chatter – new social platform for enterprise on their Dreamforce 2009 conference. Almost at the same time, Dassault Systems presentated Social Innovation on European Customer Conference in Paris.
PLM Promot: How to Present Cloud PLM Solutions?
How you can explain to customers about PLM on cloud (or on demand)?
Quite many times, I’m hearing a phrase “Cloud is not for PLM”.The cloud and on-demand topics were discussed multiple times, and I actually can find some very compelling reasons why cloud is good for PLM. I think everything starts from a good explanation. I found the following video (thanks Josh!) about Google Chrome OS as a very good explanation of why our life will move to cloud.
Develop A Successful PLM Elevator Pitch? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
How many times you’ve been in the situation when you need to explain what PLM is doing to the people who are not familiar with the magic TLA – PLM ? I assume it happened to you many times… It could be your technological fellows, potential partners, customers… or maybe even your wife is interesting about what are you doing on your job after 7pm :) . Whatever reason it happened, have you tried to develop 2 minutes PLM pitch about what is your company best PLM products are doing?
3D Warehouse Parade « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
I think 3D Warehouse becomes a hot topic. Number of 3D Content is growing. Yesterday I had chance to try out Autodesk Content 3D Warehouse BETA. So, finally, I got the sequence of the following products which are almost similar (or expected to be similar).

Azure Goes Live, Will be PLM Impacted? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Finally announced by Microsoft – Azure will go to live in January 2010. To make yourself more familiar with Azure, use this link. You can read interesting Q&A on ebiz. However, my main topic to discuss will be how this new cloud platform from Microsoft will impact today’s PLM on-demand status quo?
SaaS and Open Source: PLM Future Rides « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Recent announcements about new company PLM+ stroke me to think again about these two interesting trends – On Demand (or SaaS if you will) and Open Source Software (OSS). In one of my previous posts, I talked about promising future trends for PLM. In my view, both (On Demand and OSS) are there.
How Many Enterprise Backbones Organization Needs? « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Interesting post drove my attention yesterday. Reading about the role of PLM as enterprise backbone, I wanted to raise a question – how many of such “e-bones” do we need? My experience shows that in every enterprise implementation, discussion magically came to the point of “what will serve as a company/organization/product/enterprise or whatever else backbone. And I have to say, that I always got mixed feeling about that. I will try to put my pros and cons in the way enterprise systems can be organized to serve product lifecycle and enterprise resource planning needs.
3D Perspectives: How To Create Products for Our Digital Future « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Have you ever thought about what will be the future of product creation, manufacturing and consumer experience?
Very often we live in our own domains in our own closed environments. However, boundaries are difficult to sustain for the long-term. Life is dynamic, and changes are being generated all the time from user experiences, communication and other technological and social aspects.
It is not always simple to get a cross-domain perspective. So, I will try and offer you examples of existing and future technologies and experiences to show my perspective on how tomorrow’s products will be designed, created, manufactured and sold.
PLM Plus User Experience Minus Complexity On Demand « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Few publications around a new company called PLM+, which left stealth mode this week, drove my attention. There is not much information about PLM+ product. You can take a look on Josh Mings post in SolidSmack and Al Dean publication in develop3D as well as research PLMplus web site. So, I did.
PLM+ hit me to think again about second-mover innovation. I had chance to discuss second-movers before in my post “PLM in an economic downturn – Is there a place for second mover innovation?”. Looking on everything, I know about PLM+ for the moment, it makes me perfect sense to innovate in the place where all PLM companies already made their trials and investments.
3DLive, HD3D and demand for CAD/PDM immersivity « Daily PLM Think Tank Blog
Few months ago, in this post, I had chance to discuss the future of immersive CAD and Data Management. Looking on the latest DE article by Kenneth Wong, NX7 with HD3D: Where CAD Geometry and Lifecycle Data Mingle, I found it very interesting to couple it together with some of my previous thoughts. HD3D from Siemens PLM (announced month ago) and 3D Live environment from DS (introduced 2 years ago and embedded into DS V6 last year) clearly representing the answer on user’s demand related to immersive representation of data from both 3D environments like CAD system and data management system like PDM/PLM.
