Twitter Tactics
-
If Twittering is new to you or you want to understand what you can make of those telling the world about themselves in 140 characters at a time, then is presentation is designed to answer these questions. Over a period of time I have offered quick glimpses into applications that are designed to promote and engage in online conversations - this is another along those lines.
Dr. Tian Dayton: Developing Emotional Literacy: Learning to Talk Out Rather Than Act Out - Living on The Huffington Post
-
Learning to talk out rather than act out our emotions is what separates human beings from the animal kingdom. It is a gift of the prefrontal cortex, that thinking part of our brain that was added, late in our evolution, to our "animal" or "reptilian" brain. The cortex allows us to think, hope and dream....to feel our most primitive feelings and translate them into words, music, poetry or plays. It's part of our power of reasoning.

Unlike you, I assume you are an honest hearted and intelligent man with a point of view that is drastically different from mine.

There is no denying the atrocities that took place against black folks in those days. There is also no denying that discrimination still exists to some extent today. I admit all of those things, and I am sorry about them. I wonder if you are just as willing to admit that things are much better for black people today?

iZania.com - Obama's Speech on Race: Not Just Empty Words, or Another "Eloquent Speech"
This is what billy wants to have defened that I simply refuse - Barack is American and ANY ONE OF US!!!
-
it had discovered the bone in Obama’s closet that would derail his run for the Presidency, Barack kicked down the door of the closet that holds America’s worse skeletons, its race closet.
-
So the race closet, stacked to the top with 400 years of skeletons-from the Middle Passage through today’s colorblind racism, is closely guarded by those who know and understand this vile and twisted history. However, this time America started it by trying to radicalize Obama and racialize Obama’s Minister, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Barack finished it by stating that if you really want to have a conversation about somebody’s racial views - then let’s talk about America’s racial views, in its totality. It was substantive, and it was eloquent.

Barack - Damn! « On Happiness
I am pleased that you look at this poem, but poems are logical - they are built around language use. They also build on views like art, something you don't seem to get. For our conversation - I view it as a example of a language game but you don't. So I have and continue to refuse to argue about how Barack is - he is what he says he is. Like the politicians you accept despite their truthfulness or not - you accept their status as Americans.
So I see the problem of your conversation has to do with on what grounds will present our information. You seem to want to debate from a specifics of facts that you assume and I am not . I present arguments about the meta position that you assume - such as your privileges of whiteness and the western point of view that is based on white supremacist ideology. The fact is that if we can not accept that our ideologies are part of who basic make up I am refusing to let that go. If we can get accept this fact, there are lots to talk about

Response to the Guest Post
This an invitation to what I hope is a strong conversation and learning experience
-
The sole purpose of my post was to discover who Barak Obama really is.
-
First, Levy and I have lots of differences. Number two, Levy is an extremely intelligent and fair minded individual who can engage in a lively discussion without becoming aggressive or irrational. So, he and I have agreed to write what amounts to a guest post for one another once a week. He will begin the conversation next week. I will print his post in its entirety on this blog. I will then post a complete response which will appear here as well as on his blog later the same week. We will do this for as long as it is productive. If you have suggestions on topics for us to discuss, please email them to me at billyjacksblog2008@yahoo.com.

It is the responsibility of leaders to bring about this shift in behavior by having both a vision of integrity for the organization and a strategic plan for ensuring such integrity. This vision must be articulated in a way that is relevant and actionable by employees. A vision that aims too high will not be taken seriously while one that is too pedestrian will not motivate employees.

a wide base of knowledge and a life filled with challenge. Maturity expresses a commitment to courageously choose to define and protect ones social space in the presence of hostile forces while maintaining an adroit process of self-criticism and accountability for those choices. A wide base of knowledge infers more than a mere accumulation of data but rather an ongoing quest to be conversant with the many discourses and varied articulations they entail. Challenge-filled refers to a belief in a bursting forth of possibilities. This belief in open possibilities, limited by responsibility, explains the relationship between management and contextual leadership. Simply put, contextual leadership calls into question the very core of historical management rationale that emphasize rules, universality, and impartiality over contingent ways of reasoning that emphasize relationships, particularity, and partiality.

Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity - Google Book Search
In his view, an ideally liberal polity would be one whose culture hero the "strong poet" rather than the warrior, the priest, the sage, or the truth-seeking, logical, objective scientist. He would drop the idea of foundations. He would regard the justification of liberal society simply as a matter of historical comparison with other attempts.
-
This ironic perspective on the human condition is valuable but it cannot advance Liberalism's social and political goals. In fact, Rorty believes that it is literature and not philosophy that can do this, by promoting a genuine sense of human solidarity. Specifically, it is novelists such as Orwell and Nabokov who succeed in awakening us to the cruelty of particular social practices and individual attitudes. Thus, a truly liberal culture would fuse the private, individual freedom of the ironic, philosophical perspective with the public project of human solidarity as it is engendered through the insights and sensibilities of great writers. Rorty uses a wide range of references--from philosophy to social theory to literary criticism--to elucidate his beliefs.
