Who Does John Liu, Candidate for New York City Comptroller, Represent?
Liu is a new phenomenon in American politics... He is "made in Taiwan" (his own words), but serves his boss in Beijing, as this article reveals.
-
A candidate for city comptroller in New York claims he fights for civil rights and grew up working in sweatshops. In fact, John Liu, who faces the voters next Tuesday in what is reported to be a tight race, has never worked in a sweatshop and has refused to speak out for civil or labor rights in prominent cases in New York.
-
But the key to Liu’s political career is not his stand on rights. The key to his career is his close ties to the Chinese regime, whose media outlets have worked hard to promote him.

China's United Front and John Liu's Connections | Epoch Times
The United Front is a strategy that uses overseas Chinese to infiltrate foreign politics and establish community associations, business groups, and media that promote the interests of the CCP around the world. These groups plant or transform political and community leaders who act as agents of influence for the regime.\n\nThe umbrella organization, the United Front Work Department, sits under the CCP Central Committee and is part of an intelligence operation that harks back to 1935. Three pillars make up the United Front efforts under each consulate abroad: Chinese community associations, student associations, and media and propaganda.
-
John Liu met with Xu Yousheng, a top director of the United Front operation, officially called Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, during a sponsored trip to China in 2007.
-
During the trip Liu was also given the highly publicized “The World is More Beautiful Because of You” award.
Why and how the United Front of China operates
At first glance, it may seem far-fetched to some that a government on the other side of the world would care to influence local politics in New York City, or that someone as well-educated and known for representing minority concerns as Liu would do its bidding. But as one places these incidents within a larger context, they begin to make more sense. It is a context not only of a growing relationship with what is still one of the world's most repressive regimes, but also of one that has a history of interfering with democratic processes beyond its borders and using closer relations with foreign officials to propel them to violate the rights of those the CCP considers its enemies.
-
With skyscrapers, iPods, and stock markets becoming as common a feature of daily life in Shanghai or Beijing as they are in New York or San Francisco, it can be easy to forget that China is still governed by a Leninist-style authoritarian regime intolerant of dissent and committed to exercising extensive control over the lives and especially, the political choices, of the Chinese people.
It is still a country where a man was jailed last week for 13 years because he tried to start a political party, one of tens of thousands of political and religious prisoners of conscience languishing in prisons, labor camps, and mental institutions. -
But beyond the Communist Party’s repression in China, what is perhaps of equal importance in understanding the context surrounding John Liu is the CCP’s aggressiveness in seeking to subvert democratic values and processes abroad.

John Liu's Proclamation for Chinese Military Spacecraft
John Liu has delivered the congratulatory proclamation to the Chinese Consulate in New York, after Shenzhou V and Shenzhou VI completed their respective missions. China's state-run media highlighted those proclamations and used them as propaganda to mislead Chinese people that the U.S. Congress supports the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as the ruler in China.
-
“Liu’s praise of Chinese communist military action is inappropriate. The CCP didn’t even bother to conceal its advocation to mobilize the Chinese army to launch terrorist attacks on the U.S,” states the letter.
-
John Liu doesn't have any valid reason to go to present the congratulatory statement. John Liu is a councilman of New York City supervising transportation. He went to the Chinese Consulate in New York to present some congratulatory statement for a spaceship launched by Chinese armed forces. It doesn't make sense at all, the only explanation is that he gave himself away to the Chinese communist regime

Liu's Chinese constituents Tells Who John Liu Really Is
When American value and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s demand conflicts, Liu choose to side with CCP. When Taiwan and China's government policy differ, he again choose to act along the party line of the authoritarian regime of CCP.\nOne wonders why?
-
“I’ve never seen John Liu fighting for the rights and benefits of the Taiwanese people,” he said. “Anytime there are activities for the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] he’s so eager to join them, especially with those pro-communist groups. He’s never shown this kind of eagerness among the Taiwanese community.”

- American value respects freedom of belief and human rights, Tainwan people and goverment endorse Falung Gong spiritial practice, while Chinese communitist authoritarian regime persecutes Falun Gong and treat it as "number one enermy" of the regime in all its domestic or external policies/operations. Falun Gong issue is THE distinguisher the Chinese communist regime uses to judge who is their friend. This is why Liu choose to follow CCP's party line on anything relates to Falun Gong in his own riding at all cost. - on 2009-10-14
- This is not the attitude of a City Council Member, but certainly not unexpected out of John Liu, because when American value and the Chinese Communist Party's demand conflicts, he choose to side with CCP. When Taiwan and China's government policy differ, he again choose to side with CCP. - on 2009-10-14

Comptroller Candidate John Liu 'Anti-American,' Say Chinese Residents
"Representatives of several Chinese community groups declared that City Councilman John Liu is not a suitable candidate for city comptroller due to his dishonesty and close ties with the communist regime back in China. "
-
“His dubious character and disturbing behavior has raised serious concerns about whether his bid will ever bring justice. … If [his campaign were] ever successful, it will bring damage and disgrace to the local community and city at large,” said Chen Zhifei, a professor at the City University of New York at the protest.
-
John Liu’s supposedly tormented childhood in a sweatshop was contradicted by his own 69-year-old mother, Jamy Liu, who told the Daily News in an interview arranged by her son that she never went to the factory.

U.S. Politicians Coerced to Follow Chinese Red Flag | Epoch Times
Influencing politicians in the West is an important part of the Chinese regime's overseas activities-the main purpose being that these politicians back Beijing's policies at critical times, said Li Fengzhi, a former intelligence officer of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Ministry of State Security.
-
China experts and fellow politicians have questioned whether the Chinese regime's support for John Liu in the New York City Comptroller race is evidence for the regime's influence over the candidate. John Liu’s candidacy has been promoted by China’s state-run media, by organizations with close ties to the Chinese Communist Party, and on Chinese regime Web sites.
-
The state-run China News Service (CNS) has run 32 reports on John Liu during this campaign, with 20 of them related to his campaign for city comptroller. This tally does not include 30 other reports during the past year that were not related to the election but also referred to him. All of the reports about John Liu, whether they discussed his campaign or not, painted him in a positive light.

NY Councilmember May Harbor Ties With Communist Regime
-
It was this time a year ago the bizarre and violent incidents in Flushing, a small city in Queens, started petering out.
-
Before John Liu took what some in the community consider his peculiar stance toward the violence against Falun Gong practitioners in his district, he was honored in China by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated media as a rising political star, though his only political activities have been here in New York City.

John Liu said he worked as a "knitting-thread manager" in Queens garment factories (sweatshop) from 1974 to 1978. [ Which means when he was 7-11 years old. ]
Also, the handout photos of John's Liu in 1973 and 1974 is is worthy seeing too. One certainly hope all kids working in sweatshops around the world look like that.
