Open Meta is an OS X standard for adding tags, ratings, and other metadata to files.
Open Meta is an OS X Cocoa Objective - C tech (Leopard only) that allows any application to read and or write tags, ratings, etc to any file.
The idea of the project is for commercial, open source and in house programs to be able to use Open Meta for reading, writing and dealing with user defined meta data. The metadata is stored in extended attributes (xattr).
Tag Folders: Simple, flexible, powerful file management for Mac OS X
Drop any file onto a Tag Folder, and it will immediately be tagged to match the Tag Folder’s search criteria. Open the Tag Folder, and every file with that tag appears in a Finder window, available for use.
