Buzz Lightyear in Orbit
Use Buzz Lightyear in Orbit as part of your space unit or even as a current events topic. Students can read and learn about the current space missions on the Buzz Lightyear home page. The games are great for reinforcing math and science skills that you are teaching in conjunction with or even separate from the space unit.

WordWorld | PBS KIDS
This is a great site to used with kindergarten and first grade students at the beginning of the school year. Word World would be a fun one to use as a whole class on a projector or interactive whiteboard. It is also simple enough for students to play individually as a center or in a computer lab setting. For struggling readers, this is a really wonderful place for some one on one therapy.

SMART - Senteo interactive response system
teacher is able to make a PowerPoint presentation (usually in the form of a review game) with a question and 4 possible answers. Each student gets a little remote control and when a question is presented, each student can "lock in" their answer. After everyone locks in (you can't move to the next question before the sensor picks up everyone's response) a graph appears showing the percentage for each question. When all questions have been answered, I am able to print out detailed sheets telling me everything from what question Johnny and Suzy got wrong (individually) to what questions my class as a whole had the most trouble on. This is an AWESOME way to assess learning too!

Welcome to LCSI
The constructivist philosophy believes that students excel by building and constructing for themselves the specific knowledge they need, rather than having a teacher dictate numerous facts. Teachers play an important role as knowledge facilitators.
