Government Marketing Master
1. There are over 85,000 governments in the U.S. – 1 federal, 50 states, 3,042 counties, 14,566 school districts, 31,131 special districts, 35,963 cities and townships, 512 Native American tribes and 5 territories.
2. There are over 20,000,000 full-tine government workers in the U.S., including federal, state and local governments.
3. 30% of the Gross Domestic Product is government spending.
4. Over 40 states would qualify for the Fortune 500 if you replaced sales with revenue. Many cities and counties would also qualify.
5. There are over 465,000 businesses registered to do business with the Federal government and thousands more doing business with state and local governments. Probably less than 10% make real money (significant portion of their company business) in this market.
6. Many types of contracts available at the Federal level, but GSA Schedules is the most popular, accounting for one-third of all transactions, though not one-third of sales volume. GSA Schedules only account for about 15% of total Federal spending.
