This is cool - I saved it from Readability - it was written in green Comic Sans on AllNursing.com's website with too many colorful flashing ads - horrible. But Readability makes it... erm, readable!

This is what we learned in my medical ethics class should never happen - the patient's wishes should be paramount. Why couldn't a DNR be written? I don't understand how this could happen!

Apparently, from the comments, it happens a LOT. Here is what my ethics instructor said about it:
"Yep, and if the family wanted to they could sue the daughter who clearly mislead the EMT's.  Such a tragedy.  What goes into the chart is often what the family tells them.  It takes time to retrieve records.  And they only get retrieved if they're being looked for."

Both left and right have their own fallacies of logical thought on this - very good, thought-provoking article.

I think this is just indefensible. My father, a fireman for over 20 years, would have been ashamed of these heartless bastards. And of course, that total douche-bag asshole Glenn Beck supports the firefighters - THEY WATCHED AS A FAMILY LOST EVERYTHING, INCLUDING THREE DOGS AND A CAT WHO BURNED ALIVE. THEY HAD THE ABILITY TO HELP, BUT CHOSE NOT TO. Over a forgotten $75 payment. What kind of nightmare world is this? Is this the Tea Party Agenda?
