Boris Kachka, "Why Author Mary Karr Struggled Writing Her Third Memoir 'Lit'," New York Magazine (Nov. 8, 2009)
Now here's a bon mot: "Minoring in religious studies and thinking you know about religion is like watching porn, reading gynecology textbooks, and thinking you know something about pussy." Mary Karr, quoted in this piece.

I can't see why I'd ever have any use for this, but it sure is cool.

Neil Pardington - Home
Over a hundred images by photographer and designer Neil Pardington. The ones that grabbed my attention are images of hospital operating rooms, which were featured on But Does It Float (http://butdoesitfloat.com/96582). Someone posted a link to this on Twitter but I forget who.
Phweet - Public Alpha
Allows you to set up ad hoc voice connections using Twitter. Send a chat request via Twitter and and both parties get a message with a phone number and PIN code. Once both have phoned in, they can talk to one another. For now at least, it's free.

Study Demonstrates How We Support Our False Beliefs - UB NewsCenter
From the article: "Our data shows substantial support for a cognitive theory known as 'motivated reasoning,' which suggests that rather than search rationally for information that either confirms or disconfirms a particular belief, people actually seek out information that confirms what they already believe. In fact, for the most part people completely ignore contrary information... The study demonstrates voters' ability to develop elaborate rationalizations based on faulty information." Samoa Tourism Tourism against Church in Samoa - eTurboNews.com
News of a peculiar lawsuit in Samoa -- a hotel sued a church because the loud Sunday morning singing was driving hotel guests away. Surprisingly, the hotel won. The church must suspend its open-air services until it can get the noise level below 50 dB. One online comment: "It's not fair to tell the churchgoers they must reduce their spiritual energy. It just doesn't work like that... If you ask someone to reduce the way they praise God, God will reduce your life span or punish you in some way. How dare you take anything away from God, without whom there would be nothing! Especially hotels!"
