I think the title is a little misleading. Apparently, while basic facial expressions ARE global, there are culturally specific ways of interpreting them. (This is a subtle, but real distinction.) In Asia, people tend to concentrate primarily on the eyes when interpreting facial expressions, while in the west, people scan the entire face.

The story here is that two Orthodox Jewish apartment dwellers (this is in London) are suing their management company because the company installed a motion-sensing light switch in their hallway. They say they cannot trigger the light on the Sabbath without violating the tenets of their religion, that they were assured on leasing the apartment that no motion-sensing devices would be installed, and that they have offered to pay for the installation of an "override switch," whatever that is. Police: No evidence of hate crime at local mosque
A ten-year-old girl who was standing insode a basement community room at a Dayton mosque was sprayed wtih an aerosol by two men standing outside an open window. Police say there is no evidence that the attack was motivated by bias since the attackers did not speak. Seen on Cee Bee's Friendfeed stream.
