"Bible verses banned from Georgia school football field," USATODAY.com (Oct. 2, 2009)
In a north Georgia town, the high school football team used to run through banners at the start of each game inscribed with Bible verses. The superintendent just discontinued this practice after being advised that it was, ahem, illegal.

Add Sticky Note"I'm just kind of unnerved about it," said 18-year-old Cassandra Cooksey, a recent graduate who often prayed with her fellow marching band members before football games. "It seems like the majority of people in our community want this and they don't have a problem with it, so I think they should be allowed to have the signs if they want to."
- The only problem with this reasoning being the fact that it's illegal. - on 2009-10-03

"I was pleased that at least he was making the bridge to meet with me," said Ramzy Kiliç, Tampa's executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "It doesn't seem like (taking down the sign) is going to happen, and he didn't want to know more about Islam."
Kiliç met with Senior Pastor Terry Jones for about 25 minutes Tuesday at the Dove World Outreach Center, 5805 N.W. 37th St., which has a series of hand-painted signs that read in red "Islam is of the devil."
Jones was not available for an interview Tuesday.

Another child, accompanied by adults, held his own sign proclaiming, "I am a Muslim. Please don't hate me," as cars passed by with motorists honking or giving a thumbs-up sign.

Jim Clyburn, a Democratic House member from South Carolina, talking about the attacks on Obama: "A lot of these outbursts have to do with delegitimizing him as a president... In South Carolina politics, I learned that the olive branch works very seldom... You have to come at these things from a position of strength. My father used to say, 'Son, always remember that silence gives consent.'"
