Google driving directions offer a new feature: click and drag your route on the map to reroute it through specific locations or roadways. Directions, distances, etc. are recalculated live.

Subway maps of the world, shown at equal scale

Mapping software ... any advice?

A simple vector-based map-creating package for Windows. I think the last update was 2002. Kind of clunky ... but it only costs $49. Anyone know of a better option? I need to create a simple map for a book I'm writing.
