Tours to the Passion Play of Oberammergau Germany 2010

Nawas Travel is organizing trips to the 2010 Oberammergau passion play performances. This thing only happens every ten years. Supposedly they've cleaned up some of the anti-Semitic bits.

Buildings Designed by Rudolf Steiner, Architect

This is from Rudolf Steiner Web (rudolfsteinerweb.com). I'm bookmarking this page in particular because I like the photos, and also because I can't figure out how else to get back to it. None of the other pages in the site seems to link here.

Cornelius Tittel: "High precision industrial age souvenirs (on Bernda and Hilla Becher)," signandsight (Sept. 2, 2005), rpt. from Die Welt am Sonntag (Aug. 21, 2005)

An interview with Bernd and Hilla Becher, published in 2005. The Bechers were photographers who spent most of their career documenting the disintegration of industrial economies -- they photographed blast furnaces, water towers, limekilns, coal bunkers, and gravel pits. They also trained a number of luminaries including Andreas Gursky. They described their work as an effort to document "the sacred buildings of Calvinism."

  • "As time went by we developed a sort of ideology without ever formulating it as such. I've always said that we are documenting the sacred buildings of Calvinism. Calvinism rejects all forms of art and therefore never developed its own architecture. The buildings we photograph originate directly from this purely economical thinking."
    • Fascinating comment. - on 2009-03-01

Bonhoeffer's sermon at Fanø, Denmark, 1934: "The Church and the Peoples of the World"

The full text of his famous ecumenical sermon, quoted in a blog post. I'm bookmarking this mainly because the English text of the sermon -- which is brilliant -- is very hard to find online.
