The Philoctetes Project
A group that performs classic Greek tragedy for military audiences, with surprising results.
In Ancient Dramas, Vital Words For Today's Warriors : NPR
An NPR story on a group that has been performing Greek dramas, mostly Sophocles, for military audiences (the group si called The Philoctetes Project). Apparently it provides a surprisingly powerful kind of catharsis for veterans suffering from PTSD or other aftereffects of combat service, and it makes possible conversations between veterans and their spouses that might not have taken place otherwise.
Euripides, "The Bacchae" (ca. 406 BCE) at Bartleby.com (Harvard Classics ed.)
Broken up into four simple HTML pages.
Euripides, The Bacchae (ca. 406 BCE), full text at Perseus Project (Loeb ed.)
Kind of a clunky interface, but it's all there.
Periaktoi-Bacchae/Περίακτοι-Βάκχες
Once scene from a contemporary performance of Euripides' Bacchae (in Greek), with some singing and choreography. Decent video production; seven minutes long. Considering using this play (in some form) in a Religion and Violence class.
