Sarah Palin gives Oprah biggest audience in two years--The Live Feed | THR
-
Oprah Winfrey’s interview with former vp candidate Sarah Palin scored the talk show host her highest rating in two years.
Monday's episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" drew a 8.7 household rating and 13 share -- the best since Winfrey had the entire Osmond family on the show in 2007.
That means Palin also topped Winfrey's heavily viewed interviews with Whitney Houston at the start of the season.
John Cassidy on ObamaCare - WSJ.com
Ever wonder why the government is willing to proceed with even further big government spending during a recession?
It's all about the power. Make an entitlement, make us all dependent on it, and watch the Democrats keep power for the rest of the century.
-
The typical argument for ObamaCare is that it will offer better medical care for everyone and cost less to do it, but occasionally a supporter lets the mask slip and reveals the real political motivation. So let's give credit to John Cassidy, part of the left-wing stable at the New Yorker, who wrote last week on its Web site that "it's important to be clear about what the reform amounts to."
-
Why are they doing it? Because, according to Mr. Cassidy, ObamaCare serves the twin goals of "making the United States a more equitable country" and furthering the Democrats' "political calculus." In other words, the purpose is to further redistribute income by putting health care further under government control, and in the process making the middle class more dependent on government. As the party of government, Democrats will benefit over the long run.
Americans Would Vote Against Obama Now, Health Care Rating and Approval Down
I think a lot of folks that voted for Obama were swept away with ... well swept away. Even staunch pro-lifers who voted for Obama and have been trying to justify it all year long.
-
Washington,
DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll shows that, on the day voters
head to the polls in several states for off-year elections, Americans
would vote against pro-abortion President Barack Obama for president.
Another survey shows his approval rating down as well as his rating
on handling health care.
FLU VACCINE SHORTAGE: H1N1 and Seasonal Shots Running Out « On The Scene « FOXNews.com
The decision on whether or not to vaccinate myself and the kids might be made for me!
-
Health officials have told us all along to get the H1N1 vaccine, it’s our best defense against the deadly virus. At the same time, we’ve been reminded not to forget about getting our seasonal flu shots. That’s why it’s frustrating for people waiting in long lines all over the country, only to be turned away. Vaccine supplies are running low because of production delays, but adding to the problem is an increased demand for the seasonal vaccine. Concerns over H1N1, have led many people to get vaccinated who normally wouldn’t. So far, 85 million people have gotten seasonal vaccine. That’s 25 million more than this time last year.
Hand sanitizer in short supply, raising hoarding concerns - Oct. 23, 2009
A good friend of mine works for a soap manufacturer. They were getting ready to do lay offs when the economy tanked - now they are working overtime! An unintended good consequence of the H1N1.
-
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Demand for hand sanitizer has gone through the roof since the first cases of swine flu broke out earlier this year, and some makers of the germ-fighting gels are scrambling to keep up.
Republican Leader John Boehner | Speaker Pelosi’s Government-Run Health Plan Will Require a Monthly Abortion Premium
The current health care bill in the house does require public money for elective abortion. Here are the links!
-
Health care reform should not be used as an opportunity to use federal
funds to pay for elective abortions. Health reform should be an
opportunity to protect human life - not end it.
Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi’s 2,032-page government
takeover of health care does just that. On line 17, p. 110, section 222 under “Abortions for which Public Funding is
Allowed” the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to
determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run plan.
The Speaker’s plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered
in the Exchange covers abortions.
What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be
charged of all enrollees in the government-run plan. It’s right
there on line 16, page 96, section 213, under “Insurance Rating Rules.” The
premium will be paid into a U.S. Treasury account - and these federal
funds will be used to pay for the abortion services.
Section 213 describes the process in which the Health Benefits
Commissioner is to assess the monthly premiums that will be used to pay
for elective abortions under the government-run plan. The
Commissioner must charge at a minimum $1 per enrollee per month.

Way to tick off the other half of the constituency! I think for myself Mr. President - that's why I left a lifelong family tradition of being a Democrat to vote Republican.
What Does The Prayer Really Say?»Blog Archive » QUAERITUR: Colored cassocks for servers
Interesting discussion about cassocks and also girls as altar servers.
Incidentally, Izzy is old enough to take the training this year but Mr. Pete and I held firm and did not take her for the training. Not that she was keen on being a server anyway.
49 out of 50 states have fewer jobs after stimulus.
Um...I'm still not sure why people are supporting this guy. This is not what I call hope but it sure is change.

Pontiac church to be renamed for new saint | Detroit Free Press | Freep.com
We have had a lot of parish closings in our diocese as well. I don't know if everyone is "blending" together as nicely as these three parishes have, but how wonderful that they could all rally around a new patron and even be present for his canonization! That really is getting off to a good new start!
-
Twenty-one members of the Pontiac parish -- a merger of three parishes: St. Michael, St. Vincent de Paul and Shrine of St. Joseph -- were to be at the Vatican for the canonization today, Kohn said.
"They've really rallied around their new patron," Kohn said. "They want to use St. Damien as an example of someone who brought hope to people in need."
Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize to mixed reviews | Reuters
Oh for cryin out loud...
-
OSLO (Reuters) - President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for giving the world "hope for a better future" and striving for nuclear disarmament, in a surprise award that drew both warm praise and sharp criticism.
The decision to bestow one of the world's top accolades on a president less than nine months into his first term, who has yet to score a major foreign policy success, was greeted with gasps of astonishment from journalists at the announcement in Oslo.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." But critics -- especially in parts of the Arab and Muslim world -- called its decision premature.
Visiting a vaccine company
Fascinating blog article from Cecily who was invited to tour the Glaxo Smith Kline packaging plant as a mommy blogger. Comments are equally interesting. What interests me is the big support from this mostly liberal crowd for mandatory vaccinations and I wonder if there is an association with also wanting Obamacare. Big government, mandates = eutopia? I guess that is the progressive mantra right?
Taking away the youth of students | The Daily Illini
-
Quality education beats the quantity every day. Instead of having our students sit under the same learning environment for longer and expect them to improve, maybe we need to change that learning environment. Maybe the problem is not with the students. Perhaps it is in the curriculum, or the teachers, or the learning environment, or the class size.
-
One of the best examples of the positives of a smaller classroom size, relaxed learning environment, and shorter hours in the school day are homeschoolers. Being raised in a homeschool learning environment, I can speak first-hand about the positives. I watched my peers and siblings achieve lofty goals. One such homeschool graduate graduated junior college at age 16 and is a college senior at age 18. This is not atypical of the homeschool community.
Most of my friends are public school graduates. I would argue that each of them is incredibly gifted. Several got full funding to universities and grad school. So, obviously not all hope is lost for the public school system.
Solutions are never as easy as lawmakers present. And I don't anticipate this will be any different. Adding hours of schooling will not make a big impact on children if we ignore other factors.
Polanski And The Crux Of Art and Excess - CBS News
The truth is, that if it were a famous Catholic Priest this was about, the reaction for the liberal left and Hollywood in particular would be much different.
-
I cannot shake the suspicion, however, that lurking behind all of these various excuses is the fact that Polanski is a great artist. It is decidedly doubtful that so many in Europe and elsewhere would be outraged if a factory worker, office manager, or Catholic priest, for that matter, were finally caught after so many years evading justice for statutory rape. It is much more likely that they would be outraged at the authorities for taking so long to get around to arresting the perpetrator. The simple truth is that many people - and I freely admit to being one of them - very much wish that Polanski had not done what he did, and are sorely tempted to pretend that, somehow, he didn't. Since we cannot deny the facts, we deny, in some way, his culpability; or, we tell ourselves that, in the end, all things considered, all things being equal, etc., it really wasn't such a big deal. And we do this, I think, for one reason only: We love his movies.
It requires a great deal of effort in the face of this to remind oneself that perhaps the foremost reason people get things wrong is wishful thinking. By and large, we do not listen to what we don't want to hear. Indeed, it is not easy for lovers of cinema, and especially Polanski's cinema, to be honest with ourselves and admit that the only really important question to ask about the Polanski case is this: Did he do it? There is no question that he did.
Up to two million march to US Capitol to protest against Obama's spending in 'tea-party' demonstration | Mail Online
The main stream is probably going to portray this as 2 million right-wing extremists - but I think we know better than that! These were regular folks concerned about how the country is going - if only more had thought about that last November!
