This is one of those things we didn't learn after Vatican II. Glad to know it now though!
Considering how much complaining some Protestant Christians do about Catholic traditions reaching back to Paganism, it's a hoot that the dreaded Easter Bunny is really a German Protestant tradition brought to this country. Oh the irony!
I wonder if this is true for Easter as well? I always would buy mom a Lilly to wear on Easter and another pretty coursage for Mother's Day. I note that Sarah Palin wears corsages. Maybe they'll come back! Think I'll get one for the girls and I this Easter!

Mother’s Day Corsages:

Tradition states that children honor our Mother’s by wearing a carnation. In research I found that pastel colors were use for children who mothers were still living. If your Mother was deceased you had a white carnation.

Adults would wear roses, white for deceased mothers and red to honor mothers still living. I choose the decorative sheer ribbon to match or coordinate with the clothing of the recipient and the flower color would honor the etiquette.

Nowadays corsages are thought of as a bit old-fashioned and matronly, but I think it’s a lovely tradition that’s ready for an update. On the other hand, it is still very common to honor your mother by giving her flowers, whether it be a bunch of roses, a vase arrangement or a single stem. At one time, flowers in pink and lavender were most common, but today most people prefer to pick out something that they like and that they feel their mother would like.
Celebrate Easter during the entire Season!

Easter is the most important feast of the Christian year—so important that the church sets aside a full fifty days to celebrate Jesus’ victory over sin and death. Not many of us are used to sustaining an "Easter spirit" of celebration all the way to Pentecost, though, so here are fifty easy suggestions. Don’t try to do them all! Each week, just pick a few ideas that work for you and your family. You’ll be rejoicing long after the last jelly bean is gone.
