I will permanently bear the mark of a woman who has lost her child. There are many of us walking here...in the grocery store, at the neighborhood barbeque, at the movies. We walk without necessarily recognizing each other, side by side and a million miles apart. If you are one of these women, I want you to know that as I write these words, I am praying for you. I am mourning what you have lost in this life. I am praying that God will fill you as only He can, and that in time, you (and I) will be with our daughters and our sons again. Know that I hurt with you tonight.

Pius XII returned to the sophism that the Church prefers the life of the child
over that of the mother. That is not true. “Never and in no case has the Church
taught that the life of the child must be preferred to that of the mother. It
is erroneous to put the question with this alternative: either the life of the
child or that of the mother. No, neither the life of the mother nor that of
the child can be subjected to an act of direct suppression. In the one case
as in the other, there can be but one obligation: to make every effort to save
the lives of both, of the mother and the child.” [16]John XXIII carried forward the same principles, with special insistence on
the evil effects of legalized abortion on the whole of society, once its leaders
approve the slaying of the unborn. “Human life,” he wrote, “is sacred; from
its very inception the creative action of God is directly operative. By violating
his laws, the divine majesty is offended, the individuals themselves and humanity
are degraded, and the bonds by which members of society are united are enervated.” [17]When the Second Vatican Council, in its Constitution regarding today’s world,
declared that “Life from its very conception must be guarded with the greatest
care,” and that “Abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes,” it rested
its case on almost two millennia of Catholic faith and doctrine. Paul VI confirmed
this teaching with a special declaration in the clearest possible terms. “Respect
for human life,” he wrote, “is called for from the time that the process of
generation begins. From the time that the ovum is fertilized, a life is begun
which is neither that of the father nor of the mother; it is rather the life
of a new human being with his own growth. It would never be made human if it
were not human already.” Consequently, “Divine law and natural reason exclude
all right to the direct killing of an innocent human being.” [18]

Second, miracles happen sometimes.
Third, and most salient here: every baby she has had is dying. The question is simply, when? Most of them, God willing, will die in 50 to 70 years. But they could die in five minutes.

This book available free on line might be helpful for those trying to understand Catholic church teaching on ethics and moral issues. #47 was of particular interest to me as I just had a discussion with a lady who thinks that the church only allows the life of the mother to be saved if she is already at death's door, which is not the case. The exact language is below.
47. Operations, treatments and medications that have as their direct purpose the cure of a proportionately serious pathological condition of a pregnant woman are permitted when they cannot be safely postponed until the unborn child is viable, even if they will result in the death of the unborn child.

4. Praise for Copeland. She's kicking, squirming around, and I know that NOW, this is part of the life I will get to share with her. We are so programmed to circle a due date and mark that as the milestone at which our child begins, our time with them kicks off. But I have her today, now, and I long somehow to know her heart as much as I can. We have no idea how long she'll live. We know God is able to give her a long, healthy full life - that these diagnoses can be made null and void with one Whisper from Him. But even if He doesn't, we know her life is already full - she's made a quite a little stand for Christ in the last week. Pray we will embrace the victories we have now with her.

At 4 years old, Carter had neck surgery to remove the bone connecting his neck to his shoulder blade, and it was a huge success! He has started thriving even more, and he started eating better by mouth. Carter can only eat Gerber #2�s, but we are still working on it!
