jQuery Enlightenment | by Cody Lindley | 1st Edition | based on jQuery 1.3.2
jQuery Enlightenment was written to express, in short-order, the concepts essential to intermediate and advanced jQuery development. Its purpose is to instill in you, the reader, practices that jQuery developers take as common knowledge. Each chapter contains concepts essential to becoming a seasoned jQuery developer.
This book is intended for three types of readers. The first is someone who has read introductory books on jQuery and is looking for the next logical step. The second type of reader is a JavaScript developer, already versed in another library, now trying to quickly learn jQuery. The third reader is myself, the author. I crafted this book to be used as my own personal reference point for jQuery concepts. This is exactly the type of book I wish every JavaScript library had available.
Build an AJAX-Enabled Content Management System with Visual WebGUI: Creating a Prototype
To implement this application, I chose Visual WebGui, an open-source AJAX framework built on top of ASP.NET. Visual WebGui offers a programming model that replicates the WinForms desktop development, but for the web. Experienced .NET desktop developers can begin developing powerful web-based AJAX applications very quickly by leveraging their desktop development knowledge.
CodeProject: Build Google IG like Ajax Start Page in 7 days using ASP.NET Ajax and .NET 3.0. Free source code and programming help
will show you how I built a start page similar to Google IG in 7 nights using ASP.NET Ajax, .NET 3.0, Linq, DLinq and XLinq. I have logged my day to day development experience in this article and documented all the technical challenges, interesting discoveries and important design & architectural decisions. You will find the implementation quite close to actual Google IG. It has drag & drop enabled widgets, complete personalization of the pages, multi page feature and so on. It's not just a prototype or a sample project. It's a real living and breathing open source start page running at http://dropthings.omaralzabir.com/ which you can use everyday. You are welcome to participate in the development and make widgets for the project.
Thomas Conté - Microsoft France : AJAX SharePoint picture gallery using Highslide
o you like Highslide? It’s a pretty neat JavaScript library that allows you to create AJAX thumbnail viewers and pop-up image galleries. It’s a really easy way to add some Web 2.0 flair to your site instead of displaying boring thumbnails.
Now, SharePoint has an embedded “This week in pictures” Web Part but it’s pretty boring. There are a lot of Silverlight options out there, but I think Highslide is much simpler to implement… You don’t need to install any code on the server, you can do everything using SharePoint Designer!

Design for Developers
A few years ago I had the opportunity to sit down with a designer possessed of a rare talent. We were both part of the same team and he was creating some UI elements that I was to wire up. As I sat there (in awe) watching him work I realized that much of his considerable skill was rooted in fundamentals not unlike the art of programming. Of course, there are design skills that are intuitive that can't be "learned." But, that can also be said of the logical clarity found in a really elegant data model or a brilliant inheritance tree. I am certainly no designer, but I have observed the more creative among us for several years and have gained some insight into their world. In this article I'll share some basic principles that can help raise your design acumen and improve the experience of your users.
