Weblogg-ed » It’s Riskier Not to Change–”Tribes”
Wil Richardson writes about change in education, quoting Clay Shirky and, more prominently, Seth Godin's book "Tribes." Richardson quotes a part of "Tribes" that talks about the music industry's failure to react to changes in the world around them. He then suggests that we think of education instead of music. A couple of great quotes:
"The safer you play your plans for the future, the riskier it actually is. That’s because the world is certainly, definitely, and more than possibly changing."
and
"In every organization, everyone rises to the level at which they become paralyzed with fear."

2¢ Worth » Are You Asking Dead Questions?
I love this idea of teaching history backwards, starting with a more recent event, and then exploring back This would allow the students some investment in the material if the topic was explored by tracing it back and following where the threads of conversation in the classroom took it.

2¢ Worth » More on what Matters…
Interesting comments here about the use of technology in the classroom and the need to use it for actual learning instead of using it for the sake of "using technology." I especially like this quote: "It is my experience that modern education is becoming more about documenting what we do than about doing anything. I think the definition of a public school teacher is becoming someone who documents in great detail what they would do if they had time to teach."
