From General Electric comes this great online whiteboard. Using a range of tools you can create all manner of illustrations. You can also add collaborators to work on the whiteboard at the same time and best of all you can replay the sequence of the illustration.

Tagul is another word cloud generator like Wordle. Unlike Wordle, the Tagul clouds are embeddable. The clouds are also customizable and each of the words in the cloud is a link to a Google definition plus other links. Tagul also makes use of multiple fonts. Whilst it is in Beta Tagul is free.

" In simple terms, Photosynth allows you to take a bunch of photos of the same scene or object and automagically stitch them all together into one big interactive 3D viewing experience that you can share with anyone on the web."

Photosynth requires the installation of Microsoft silverlight to view and at this stage only works on a PC. You will also need a windows live account.

Photosynths can be embedded in your blog though you will need a good broadband connection.

WordSift is another visualisation tool that was created primarily for teachers. It works just like Wordle but just a bit better.

All you need do is paste in the text and then sit back. The sifted words then show up in orange or green and the fun really begins. This tool would be lots of fun on an IWB as well as on your own computer.

A bit like those PowerPoint effects which make you ponder why they are included, the Visible Tweets visualisations are a bit lost on me however some others enjoy the eye candy of seeing tweets performing gyrations on their screen. An interesting concept nonetheless :).

Worldmapper is a collection of some 600 world maps, that uses cartograms to offer comparative data around themes such Age of Death, Income etc. Each of the the countries are re-sized on each map according to the particular variable that is being mapped. Though some of the maps are quite tricky to work with at first after you get used to it, the cartograms are a great visualization. Each of the maps also has an associated pdf file.

Breathing Earth is a real-time simulation that purports to display the CO2 emissions of every country in the world, alongside birth and death data. The simulation tracks on a map where in the world these vents are likley to be taking place. Really interesting stuff.

Although the CO2 emission, birth rate and death rate data used in Breathing Earth comes from reputable sources, data that measures things on such a massive scale can never be 100% accurate. Tag Galaxy is a fascinating Flickr visual search engine that searches on a tag. From the original tag you can then filter down through refined tags to get to your desired image. Be aware though that many of the images are not shared with Creative Commons licensing.
