Social Media Search Tool | WhosTalkin?
Want to search across 60 of the main social networking spaces via the one portal then WhosTalkin.com is the place to go. You can search via a group type eg blogs, videos or images, or sub spaces within these groups. This is a really interesting tool for searching on trending topics. It's also fun to do a search on your own online identity to see what others are saying about you.
Gary's Social Media Count | PERSONALIZE MEDIA
This constantly updating embeddable table from Gary Hayes details statistics related to the development and/or use of social media including the number of tweets, iPhone apps downloaded amongst others. Fascinating.
BackupMyTweets Home: Backup Your Twitter Account
BackupMyTweets is a "teaser" site that Twitter users can use to create an archive of their tweets. Twitter itself stops archiving tweets once you reach 3,200, (so most of us don't have to worry too much just yet).
Potentially of more interest on the site however are the other pay for services offered by BackupMy in the BackupMyBlog and BackupMyPics options. For those with extensive blogs and/or Flickr accounts and the like, the $19.95 per year back up service may be money well spent if only for peace of mind.
The Micro-Sociology of Networks
A really interesting Slideshare presentation on a number of levels that looks at the development of social networking in relation to human needs and behaviours. Through looking backwards at technological evolution and then onto the present it suggests that the whole process is part of a cycle. Definitely worth a look at.
