Social Media Search Tool | WhosTalkin?
Want to search across 60 of the main social networking spaces via the one portal then WhosTalkin.com is the place to go. You can search via a group type eg blogs, videos or images, or sub spaces within these groups. This is a really interesting tool for searching on trending topics. It's also fun to do a search on your own online identity to see what others are saying about you.
Conversational Search — BackType
Backtype is yet another search engine this time looking to mine "real time web based conversations". A quick check suggests that though it does quite a good job of checking through social media such as blogs and Facebook the Chatter search on the side panel misses most of the Twitter traffic. Worth a look though.

This site has links to a range of tutorials, tips and tricks using all things Google. From translating documents in Google Docs to personalizing Google Maps to checking out a beginners guide to using Google search this is the site for Googleaholics.

DocMazy - The Future of Document Search
DocMazy is a search portal specific to documents. The results whilst quite solid suffer from the lack of an Advanced Search function that would allow a more refined search. Results often bring up multiple references to the same document. Especially with documents it would also be very useful to rank the results in date order which I am not sure that this version does.
TinEye Reverse Image Search
This is one to keep an eye on, (sorry really bad pun). If you want to check out where an image may have come from or to see if one of your images has been used elsewhere then this is the tool to use. At present the database is small so you may not yet find the details you are looking for but as they say, watch this space....

You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks."

Realtime Twitter Search Results on Google (MT Hacks)
There is increasing discussion about whether Twitter's "real time search" could pose a threat to Google. While Twitter may or may not pose a threat to Google, it is clear that real-time search such as leveraging Twitter is becoming increasingly important. Mark Carye at MTHacks decided to get realtime twitter search results on Google so he created a Greasemonkey user script that does exactly this. It displays the most recent 5 tweets for the query that you are search for, giving both real-time Twitter search results and Google results on the same page. This entry also has some interesting links to the Google/Twitter search debate as well as other ideas related to searching via Twitter.

KidRex - Kid Safe Search
KidRex is a fun and safe search for kids, by kids! KidRex searches emphasize kid-related webpages and are powered by Google Custom Search and use Google SafeSearch technology. Google's SafeSearch screens for sites that contain explicit sexual content and deletes them from your child’s search results. Google's filter uses advanced technology to check keywords, phrases, and URLs. No filter is 100 percent accurate, but SafeSearch should eliminate most inappropriate material.
Tag Galaxy
Tag Galaxy is a fascinating Flickr visual search engine that searches on a tag. From the original tag you can then filter down through refined tags to get to your desired image. Be aware though that many of the images are not shared with Creative Commons licensing.

Compfight a flickr™ search tool
A really interesting flickr search engine that seems to throw up lots of original results. Can be searched on via CC and also has Safe Search options though even with this on it still threw up some "questionable" images.
