Climate Change - News - Environment (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
This is a great interactive from the ABC that tracks back through history to look at a range of factors that may or may not play a part in climate change including human population, industrial landmarks and geological changes. As well as looking backward through time it also offers 4 scenarios for the future none of which are terribly optimistic.

"Established in 2006, Curriculumbits.com offer free online access to a growing range of interactive multimedia elearning resources. The online resource library contains games, quizzes, animations and videos in a variety of subjects. Resources have been produced according to key stage 3 and 4 of the UK National Curriculum for students aged 11 to 16."
Though the learning objects are not downloadable they are eminently suited to using on an interactive whiteboard.

This article from eschoolnews looks at the Robert Marzanno "Evaluation Study of the Effects of Promethean ActivClassroom on Student Achievement,"report. It begins
"Integrating Promethean's ActivClassroom--a suite of educational technologies that includes an interactive whiteboard, teaching software, and student response systems--into instruction can raise student achievement by an average of 17 percentile points, according to new research that also confirms the experience, comfort, and skill level of teachers in using the technology has a huge impact on how effective they'll be."
The National Archives Learning Curve | Focus on Film
This UK site is designed to promote critical evaluation of the use of film in the study of history and history teaching. It includes discussion of some of the issues related to film as evidence, activities that investigate different aspects of film, an archive of original and reconstructions as well as showcasing how film editors work via an online editing tool.
ReadWriteThink: Student Materials
The ReadWriteThink site maintained by the International Reading Association in conjunction with the US National Council for the Teachers of English offers,
"a collection of online Student Materials to support literacy learning in the K-12 classroom. These interactive tools can be used to supplement a variety of lessons and provide an opportunity for students to use technology while developing their literacy skills."
They include organisers, games, writing frameworks, creation tools amongst many others. Many are perfect for use on IWB's and laptops, netbooks and the like

Part of the larger Physics.org site this selection of interactive websites and games show a whole different side of physics. Here you can find a cartoon street where you can explore the physics of life or take a look at a selection fo videos demonstrating physics principles in real life or even perform your own colonoscopy, (teacher guidance required).

Learning - E2BN
From The East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) one of 10 Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) set up by the UK Government to help raise standards in teaching and learning by the use of broadband technology, comes this selection of learning activities. The activities are arranged under the UK Keystages and divided into subject areas, (note some activities feature in more than one category). Included are links to interactives, movies and a range of activities many of which are suited to use on an IWB.
Maps of War ::: Visual History of War, Religion, and Government
These fascinating Flash based maps trace the history of events and trends such as the march of democracy, and the Imperial History of the Middle East. The maps play in a flash player that can also be embedded in a blog or wiki. Another great tool for use with an IWB.
VIRTUAL KEYBOARD - PIANO
This virtual keyboard can be played solo or as chords very much like a traditional eectronic keyboard. It also has some drum presets and just like other keyboards there are a range of instruments to choose from. Great for an IWB.
NLA Australian Newspapers beta
"The National Library of Australia, in collaboration the Australian State and Territory libraries, has commenced a program to digitise out of copyright newspapers. They are creating a free online service that will enable full-text searching of newspaper articles. This will include newspapers published in each state and territory from the 1800s to the mid-1950s, when copyright applies. The first Australian newspaper, published in Sydney in 1803, is included in the Program."
Within the browser you can search on detail, dates, newspaper title and State. Whilst the article is originally in a smaller "browser" you can zoom and move around the page, you can also view the page in a separate window from where you can download a pdf version.
Scootle
Scootle provides access to over 6000 items of digital curriculum content from The Le@rning Federation. You can find interactive learning objects, images, audio files and movie clips via browse, search and filter technology. Scootle allows you to create personal favourite lists of resources for quick access. Anyone can use the search and browse tools of Scootle. Access to other features of the site are restricted to teachers and students in Australian and New Zealand schools and other bodies licensed by TLF. Login access is provided to teachers through their jurisdictions.
