Managing Knowledge Means Managing Oneself -- Peter F. Drucker full-text article

  • The greatest competitive advantage of the United States is that it attracts top
knowledge workers from around the world -- not just because they earn more money
but because they are treated as colleagues, not as subordinates. Knowledge
workers don't believe they are paid to work 9 to 5; they believe they're paid to
be effective. Organizations that understand this -- and strip away everything
that gets in their knowledge workers' way -- will be able to attract, hold, and
motivate the best performers. That will be the single biggest factor for
competitive advantage in the next 25 years.

Too many CIOs fail to ride Web 2.0 wave

  • Kaufer said the Web 2.0 label slapped onto a software package can mean
anything to anybody. It's important that CIOs identify what customers would want
from user-generated content and other social aspects to the technology. He said
the social aspect of Web 2.0 might have nothing directly to do with selling a
product, but it can create branding opportunities and build relationships with
    customers.

Web 2.0 "might scare some people, but you can try a lot of things out and
it's technically not that hard," Kaufer said. "It doesn't need to be a major
    push for the company."
