Introduction


Elementary language educators have been using CDROMS with their students for more than a decade. But what are the criteria for selecting 'educationally sound' elementary CDROMs for language learning and teaching? How do you know a good CDROM when you view it? In the space of 30-90 minutes, you're going to grapple with these questions and more.
The Task


To select educationally sound elementary CDROMs, you need to develop a thorough understanding of the different selection criteria and educational potential for various CDROMs. One way to develop effective CDROM selection criteria is to critically analyze a number of CDROM examples and discuss them from multiple perspectives. That's your task in this exercise.

By the end of this lesson, you and your group will answer these questions:

1. Which two of example CDROMs on LERC's computer stations are the best ones for ESL instructors and ESL language learners? Why?
2. Which two are the worst? Why?
3. What do best and worst mean to you?
