21 Things for the 21st Century Educator - Home
"The purpose of this course is to provide ”Just in Time” training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as the new MMC Online Experience requirement. Participants who fulfill all of the requirements have the opportunity to earn SBCEU’s. To learn more about the session, look under the tab “The 21 Things”. We hope you take advantage of this unique opportunity.

Event Lobby (EVENT: 146133)
"When it comes to Internet safety, parents and teachers are advocating for more restrictions at home and in school, while students complain that the filters and firewalls are limiting their technology use and negatively impacting their ability to learn. This webinar explores the latest findings from Speak Up surveys given to K-12 students, teachers, parents and administrators regarding their views on Internet safety and the obstacles that students face in using technology for learning.
Bring questions for our panel. Julie Evans, CEO of Project Tomorrow, the nation’s leading education nonprofit organization that facilitates the annual Speak Up surveys, will lead an interactive Q&A session following the live presentation. "
Free Technology for Teachers: Beyond Google - Improve Your Search Results (Repost)
"I originally posted this on Saturday afternoon which is typically the time when the fewest people are reading this blog. Since Saturday, I made a couple of slight changes.
While working with some of my colleagues in a workshop earlier this week, I was reminded that a lot of people aren't familiar with tools and strategies for refining Internet search results. In response to that experience, I sat down this morning and created this short guide to 15 tools and strategies for helping your students (and your colleagues) improve their Internet search results. I've embedded the guide below in two different forms which you can download for free."

Introduction
Elementary language educators have been using CDROMS with their students for more than a decade. But what are the criteria for selecting 'educationally sound' elementary CDROMs for language learning and teaching? How do you know a good CDROM when you view it? In the space of 30-90 minutes, you're going to grapple with these questions and more.
The Task
To select educationally sound elementary CDROMs, you need to develop a thorough understanding of the different selection criteria and educational potential for various CDROMs. One way to develop effective CDROM selection criteria is to critically analyze a number of CDROM examples and discuss them from multiple perspectives. That's your task in this exercise.
By the end of this lesson, you and your group will answer these questions:
1. Which two of example CDROMs on LERC's computer stations are the best ones for ESL instructors and ESL language learners? Why?
2. Which two are the worst? Why?
3. What do best and worst mean to you?
