Is a Facebook profile really necessary? Read this article and you be the judge..

  • Social Networking is anywhere people are talking online. From a
corporate perspective, what you are interested in - is where people are talking
about you and are talking about the topics you care about (competitor brands,
    issues that involve your brand).
  • Social networking is an evolution about what has been around - people have
always talked about these kinds of things offline, it has just been moving
online - the web is an extension of that. It’s just now easier for people to
eavesdrop about what others are thinking and marketers can listen in and hear
    what they are saying.

Is Facebook One Social Network Or An Aggregator Of Social Networks? - Mobile Blog - InformationWeek

  • Facebook is an aggregator of networks. While the totality of its users may form
one big social network -- and right now the company is using that mega-network
to drive growth -- the core of the platform is designed to house all kinds of
closed, niche networks. All Facebook really needs to do is to give users more
ability to customize each of these niche networks. Do you think Facebook isn't
    working on this?

  • Linkedin is growing faster than Facebook

    Wednesday,
    April 16th, 2008 |

Before you can recruit passive prospects online, you have to be where they
are (or where they will most likely be). Gee, that’s kind of deep. Well, if you
want to know where a lot of passive prospects will be… its (drumroll please)
    Linkedin. (www.linkedin.com)

Compared to other Social Networks, Linkedin had the most impressive
    growth rate
by escalating in audience growth 271%.
WOW! To put that in perspective, Facebook’s new audience share
    doubled
, but only by 102%. (Not bad by any means, but still… its not
    271%.)

Its also notable to cite that MySpace’s unique audience totaled 55.4
    million
in February 2008, more than double Facebook’s 20.0 million.
