(1) wieloplatformowość (ten sam kod żródłowy kompiluje się pod Win32, Win64, Linuxy, Mac OS i kilka innych systemów)
(2) licencję. Zmodyfikowana licencja LGPL pozwala mieć Lazarusa za darmo i tworzyć z jego pomocą aplikacje zarówno na licencji GPL, jak i komercyjne o zamkniętym źródle.
(3) kompilator. FPC jest szybkim (wielokrotnie szybszym niż gcc) kompilatorem, używany dialekt języka Pascal jest w pełni obiektowy, wspiera także przeciążanie operatorów i funkcji. Pascal jest znacznie odporniejszy niż C++ na błędy programisty (ścisła kontrola typów) i ma znacznie czytelszy kod
(4) dostępność bibliotek. Praktycznie wszystkie biblioteki dynamiczne, takie jak .dll w win czy .so w linuxach, mogą być zarówno tworzone jak i używane w lazarusie. Do kilkudziesięciu popularnych bibliotek, jak opengl czy sdl istnieją gotowe pliki nagłówkowe.
(5) Tworzony plik wykonywalny zawiera kod maszynowy, działa samodzielnie i nie wymaga bibliotek runtime. Kompilator w 64-bitowej wersji tworzy natywny 64-bitowy kod wynikowy, dostępny jest również asembler.
