Faced with such an attack, it would be folly not to strike | Seumas Milne | Comment is free | The Guardian
"Postal workers have been left with little option. The real madness lies with those itching to pick a fight before an election"
G20: More Lies, More Deception « Dprogram.net
This is “freedom and democracy” at work. The leaders of the G-20 countries, which account for 85% of the world’s income, cannot meet in an American city without 12,000 cops outfitted like the emperor’s storm troopers in Star Wars. And the US government complains about Iran.
The US government’s complaints about Iran have reached a new level of shrillness. On September 25 Obama declared: “Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow.” The heads of America’s British, French, and German puppet states added their two cents worth, giving the government of Iran three months to meet the “international community’s demands” to give up its rights as a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty to nuclear energy. In case you don’t know, the term “international community” is shorthand for the US, Israel, and Europe, a handful of arrogant and rich countries that oppress the rest of the world.

Will Michael Moore's 'Capitalism' Be A Game Changer? | Air America Media
Every time I see a new Michael Moore movie, America looks a little different to me. I feel an odd mixture of hopefulness, anger, and spiritual fatigue. I just saw Moore’s latest documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” this week and it's deja vu all over again.

Pub Philosopher: The establishment's liberal consensus
The establishment's liberal consensus has been built up over decades. Whatever the result of the next election, of one thing we can be sure of is that the next government will be liberal.
It takes a vindictive mind to tax a view
Bryan Forbes wants to know why he is to be penalised for living in a nice house with a tennis court and a partial view of a lake. We are mugs to have let things get this bad
Cannonfire
Of all the outside-the mainstream notions I've posited on this blog, the one that annoys the most people is my suggestion that the CIA recruited young Barack Obama during his days at Occidental College. I would further suggest that the Agency link runs in the family. I believe that, at an earlier time, the Agency (or some other branch of the intelligence community) may have recruited his mother, Ann Dunham.

English-speaking pupils are a minority in inner-city London primary schools | Mail Online
Children who speak English as their first language are now a minority in inner-city London primary schools, official figures showed yesterday.
Youngsters with a different mother tongue form a majority in primaries in 13 out of 33 London boroughs and in nearby Slough.
In inner London, 54 per cent of primary pupils and 48.5 per cent in secondary institutions do not speak English as their first language. This amounts to an astonishing 159,340 children.
Across the country, English is a foreign language to more than one in seven primary youngsters - almost half a million.
Harriet Harman is either thick or criminally disingenuous
The reason we should have disquiet about Harriet is because she is either thick or criminally disingenuous. My guess is thick. Being a bit thick should not disqualify someone from leading their party, I suppose, as both Iain Duncan Smith and Lord Salisbury would concur. But the problem with Harman is that this is stupidity repackaged as a form of jejune radicalism and as a consequence nobody in her party will gainsay it, for fear of being branded a reactionary.

Robert Baer: Don't Forget Mousavi's Bloody Past - TIME
Before we go too far down the road cheering the forces of Iranian democracy, let's not forget that its public face, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, has American blood on his hands. He was Iran's Prime Minister during most of the 1980s, a time when the country was waging a terrorist campaign against the U.S.
