Sakai, Blackboard and Moodle session at EDUCAUSE
"The interest in the session shows that a large proportion of universities are thinking about what system will best meet their needs."
Dynamics of Supporting Sakai Through Local and Global Collaboration
"This ECAR research bulletin discusses the adjustments that the Indiana University information technology organization made, and continues to make, in order to support membership in Sakai."
Transitioning to Technology Based Instruction
"Marist's Mark Van Dyke navigates higher education's technology maze with the help of the Sakai open source LMS"
UNC Sakai Pilot Evaluation: Results Summary
"When we published the Sakai Pilot Evaluation Final Report, we knew that most people would prefer a visual summary rather than reading the 74-page document or even the Executive Summary."
How course management systems impact teaching
Course management systems, like any other technology, have an inherent purpose implied in their design, and therefore a built–in pedagogy. Although these pedagogies are based on instructivist principles, today’s large CMSs have many features suitable for applying more constructivist pedagogies.
Blackboard’s Response to Open Source: Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt
"As I noted recently, the University of North Carolina (a Blackboard customer) reported highly favorable results of their pilot study of Sakai, with an outcome of further investigation into Sakai as a full replacement of Blackboard as their primary LMS. It turns out that this was following on the heels of a similar study done by the North Carolina Community College system favorably comparing Moodle to Blackboard."
3akai Round Two
Some of the graphics here are meant to be suggestive rather than precise (e.g. the lines of connection between types of users aren’t meant to show specific relationships), but if you don’t harp on the detail it’s a nice sweep of the ecosystem.
Sakai Admin Guide - Load Balancing and Scaling
"Although Sakai can be run on a single server which houses all database and filesystem content, many sites will want to consider growing their installation beyond the confines of a single server"
UF Adopts Sakai to be New E-Learning System
"After an 8-month evaluation process, the University of Florida has selected the open source Sakai course management system to be the new course management system. By choosing an open source system, UF joins a growing trend among colleges and universities."
UNC Chapel Hill - Sakai Pilot Final Report available
"We are pleased to announce that the Sakai Pilot Final Report is available for your review! The 74-page PDF (3.2 MB) provides a wealth of data collected during Fall 2008 and Spring 2009."
Course Evaluations at U. of Maryland
"Course evaluations are a part of the process by which the University of Maryland seeks to improve teaching and learning. The University Senate approved the implementation of a standard, online, University-wide course evaluation instrument. Each course evaluation contains a set of universal questions, and some are supplemented by questions from specific colleges."
Virginia Tech Single-Form Portfolio
"This template was an attempt at improving the user's experience in creating multiple forms that would end up as pages of their ePortfolios. We needed a template that provided a flxed number of tabs (this one has six) but has an infinite number of secondary navigation pages. This portfolio is set up as a "resume"-style template, but can easily be customized for different purposes."
The State of the LMS: An Institutional Perspective
This is not one of those predict-the-demise or predict-the-next-flux-capacitor presentations, though. It’s just an excellent, down-to-earth institutional view of how LMS adoption is going in the real world and what the challenges are, especially for large university consortia.
H1N1 Information for UD Faculty
A four-step approach for UD faculty in case of a H1N1 outbreak.
Community Source Evaluation Strategies for Sakai
As Marist began to look at Sakai it established five core “evaluation criteria” against which to assess and benchmark it with regards to two important questions: (1) Was Sakai the right strategic solution for the College?; and (2) If so, what was the appropriate timeline and transition strategy to move the institution to Sakai? These evaluation criteria were broken down into five primary categories: Functionality Requirements, Support Requirements, Sakai Community Health, Reliability/Scalability, and Innovation Drivers.
SLakai Paris Conference Wrap-up
In early July Wolverine Island played host to members of the Sakai community who were interested in having an in-world event. The island was made available to non-U-M participants from July 1-3, the time period that the real world Sakai conference was being held in Paris.
The LMS Is Not Dead Yet
But is it all about control? Although control may be a part of the issue, there are other factors promising to keep institutionally adopted and integrated LMSs alive for years to come. Consider the following three points.
