Study Says World's Stocks Controlled by Select Few | Research - ISNS
"A pair of physicists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich did a physics-based analysis of the world economy as it looked in early 2007. Stefano Battiston and James Glattfelder extracted the information from the tangled yarn that links 24,877 stocks and 106,141 shareholding entities in 48 countries, revealing what they called the "backbone" of each country's financial market. These backbones represented the owners of 80 percent of a country's market capital, yet consisted of remarkably few shareholders. [..] The results will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Physical Review E."

Twitter Study Reveals Interesting Results About Usage | Pear Analytics
"So we took 2,000 tweets from the public timeline (in English and in the US) over a 2-week period from 11:00a to 5:00p (CST) and captured tweets in half-hour increments. Then we categorized them into 6 buckets: News, Spam, Self-Promotion, Pointless Babble, Conversational and Pass-Along Value. The results were interesting. As you may have guessed, Pointless Babble won with 40.55% of the total tweets captured; however, Conversational was a very close second at 37.55%, and Pass-Along Value was third (albeit a distant third) at 8.7% of the tweets captured."

Streisand effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The Streisand effect is an Internet phenomenon where an attempt to censor or remove a piece of information backfires, causing the information to be widely publicized. Examples of such attempts include censoring a photograph, a number, a file, or a website (for example via a cease-and-desist letter). Instead of being suppressed, the information receives extensive publicity, often being widely mirrored across the Internet, or distributed on file-sharing networks. The effect is related to John Gilmore's observation that "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."

The Effect of Country Music on Suicide
"Country music is hypothesized to nurture a suicidal mood through its concerns with
problems common in the suicidal population, such as marital discord, alcohol abuse, and
alienation from work. The results of a multiple regression analysis of 49 metropolitan
areas show that the greater the airtime devoted to country music, the greater the white
suicide rate. The effect is independent of divorce, southernness, poverty, and gun
availability. The existence of a country music subculture is thought to reinforce the link
between country music and suicide."

"CAVNET attempts to rectify our approach to actionable knowledge by providing a trusted source for junior leaders to immediately tap into and share the emerging enemy and friendly tactics, techniques and procedures laterally so that like units can arm themselves with the most recent enemy and friendly trends. This implies trust from above and a method to validate without losing the relevance. Maj. Gen. His implicit trust in subordinates, realization that this is a small-unit war, and chief advocating [of] cuts across the inherent cultural divide created by hierarchical "turf wars" [is] driving this change across the organization. 5 Ways People Are Trying to Save the World (That Don't Work) | Cracked.com
"Some expert at Gonzaga University, with a lot of time on his hands, calculated that at current rates all the garbage in the US over the next 1,000 years would fill up a 35 square mile landfill 100 yards deep. This sounds like one of those "Holy shit!" scary figures until you consider this is about one tenth of one percent of the land currently used for grazing in the US. Also, this would be the accumulation over 1,000 years by which time we should have bigger things to worry about, like overthrowing our robotic overlords."
