How to send group updates and direct messages on Google Buzz using @replies.
This technique has been described by a few people before, but I do it often enough that it is worth sharing again.
Setup (only needs to be done once):
1) Visit your Google Contacts manager [1]
2) Create a new contacts group, name it "Private"
3) Leave the "Private" group empty (don't add anyone)
Sending a group update:
4) Visit Google Buzz [2]
5) Start a new Buzz message
6) Change the visibility from "Public on the web" to "Private"
7) Select the empty "Private" contact group
8) Type your message, adding @replies for everyone you want to include
9) Hit "Post"
The message will now be delivered to and visible to everyone that you, or anyone else on the thread, invites into the thread with an @reply. The people you invite can also invite others to join by adding their own @replies.

Blogger Chris Ilias loves viewing threaded conversations in Thunderbird, but he gets annoyed that every time he sorts messages by clicking on another column name (say, by sender), the threaded view goes away and he's left staring at a jumble of unrelated messages. Luckily, he found a solution.
Go to Tools->Options->Advanced->General, and click on "Config Editor". In the Config Editor, search for the preference
mailnews.thread_pane_column_unthreads. Double-click on it, which should change the value to false.
-
- It will open a single pane window (no Explorer bar).
- It will allow the user to navigate out of the folder (i.e. to the folder’s parent and beyond).
- The default is for none of the items in a folder to yet be selected.
- If there is already an open Explorer window displaying that folder, then the operating system will switch to that existing view, as opposed to opening a new one.
In Windows, you can create a shortcut to a folder (for example, by right-click and dragging the folder from the Windows Explorer onto the desktop and selecting “create shortcut here”). Then, when you double-click on the shortcut, Explorer opens back up and displays the contents of that folder. There are four default characteristics when this happens:
All of these behaviors can be customized.
-
The first step is to convert the shortcut target from implicitly invoking the Explorer to explicitly invoking it. If you examine the properties of a folder shortcut, as described above (right-click and select Properties), you’d see that the Target field is the name of the folder.
