We realized that we've never officially talked about the settings page for the mobile interface, so here's a quick rundown of the ways in which you can customize your Reader experience to suit your tastes (on your phone, you can find this page by looking for the "Settings" link at the bottom of the screen).




• Start page: Choose which folder or view you'd like to see when you first log in.
• Link reformatting: Though smartphone browsers can generally render any webpage well, you may still want to reformat webpage (removing most styles and compressing images) if you're on a low-bandwidth connection.

Mobile-Tagging beschreibt den Vorgang, bei dem mit Hilfe einer Handykamera ein 2-Dimensionaler Barcode fotografiert und decodiert wird. 2D-Codes wiederum sind die Weiterentwicklung des handelsüblichen Barcodes (i.d.R. EAN) wie er auf jedem Produkt zu finden ist.

Die 2-Dimensionale Barcodes übernehmen in der realen Welt die Rolle der Hyperlinks aus dem Internet. Anstatt den Hyperlink mit der Maus anzuklicken, benutzt der interessierte User sein Kamerahandy um den Code zu fotografieren und gelangt mit nur einem Klick zu den gewünschten Informationen. Lästiges und fehleranfälliges Eintippen, sowie unnötiges und zeitaufwendiges Suchen im mobilen Internet gehören somit der Vergangenheit an.

Why are Internet companies doing this? Twitter says:

We use the m because it’s the shortest possible meaningful sub domain and typing on some phones is a pain. We didn’t launch [the main site] with auto-detection because it would have held back the launch (it’s difficult).

Fazit:

Zumindest für mich ist das Problem mit dem “mobilen” Twittern gelöst. Ein schlanker und kosteneffizienter Client, der sicherlich noch weiter verbessert werden kann. Aber für eine Idee, die Ende letzter Woche entstand und heute bereits so gut funktioniert, ziehe ich meinen Hut. Die ein oder andere Nightly Session durften die Entwickler wohl aufs Parkett legen, aber das Ergebnis fingert sich wirklich schon sehr verlässlich, mehr davon :) Ich durfte das ganze schon ein paar Stunden vorher Betatesten und konnte somit 2-4 Worte mehr dazu platzieren.

I like twitter, but I prefer to get most of my updates via the web, instead of on my cell phone. But I occasionally like to enable cell phone updates when I’m on-the-go and bored. Problem is, I always forget the twitter cell phone commands, cause I don’t use it often enough to commit to memory.

Problem solved…I put together these very simple wallet-sized cheat sheets for quick reference on-the-go. Print ‘em out, and give them to friends, and help spread the joy that is twitter.

Oh, and the back side is blank so you can write down the usernames of your friends (especially those that use crazy ones that aren’t easy to remember).
