  • The more thorny business question, which I touched on before, is: In a world of mashed up services from multiple providers, how do the providers divide up the 'affiliate' revenue from the likes of eMusic, Amazon or iTunes?

To put it another way, how do you audit the trail that a fan takes from 'ignorance' to finding out more about a new artist, by auditioning their music, reading about their history and context, seeing who they're similar to, identifying their most popular or successful material? If multiple services play a part in this trail, as they surely will more often than not, how do you measure their relative rewards from referral fees?
