Top 5 Online Backup Services That Will Save Your Life - Rev2.org

  • So what exactly is online backup? As opposed to online storage (which has its own set of services), it’s simply letting a software/web service model automatically backup your data over the Internet so you never have to worry about doing it — that is of course, until you lose it, in which case it’s a simple one-click-restore. We reviewed, tested, and played around with a whole set of online backup services, and out of the ones we liked, here are the top 5 — all with a guarantee to save your life!

Download of the Day: FileHamster (Windows) - Lifehacker

  • Windows only: FileHamster makes real-time backups of your files as you work.

Though designed with artists in mind, the program has applications for anyone who could benefit from having incremental backups of their documents. Any time you save your active document, FileHamster copies it to a specified folder. Subsequent saves are stored incrementally as revisions. You can add comments to each revision so you have a record of the changes (if necessary). The software lets you designate individual files and/or folders to be "watched" for backups. It even supports a handful of plug-ins, including logs, notes and Zip compression.

FileHamster is easy to configure, and it works quickly and quietly in the background. Even so, you might want to peek at the wiki to get a better idea for how the program operates; the main site is a little vague. FileHamster is free; it requires Windows 2000 or later and .NET 2.0. Thanks, Adam!

WordPress Plugins To Help You Administer Your Blog « Lorelle on WordPress

  • The number one tool for backing up your blog is the WordPress Database Backup Plugin. The newest version backs up your database with an option to backup automatically, on a schedule of your choice. You can set it to backup hourly, daily, or weekly. Backups can be automatically emailed to you, too. And it works with WordPress 2.1.

This doesn’t cover backing up your WordPress Theme and Plugins, and any changes you make to your WordPress setup. That you still have to do yourself. See Backing Up WordPress for details on how to do this.

  • Under Maintenance WordPress Plugin makes your blog temporarily unavailable with an easy-to-customize message, alerting visitors who may be worried.
