ReadWriteThink: Student Materials
Learned about this from Kathy Rice. Great interactive activities mainly based on graphic organizers and games. Excellent quality educationally and good graphics; would work well on SMARTBoard. For example, the animal studies graphic organizer prompts the student to choose a subtopic such as "baby animals" and then answer three questions about that subtopic. Jan and Jim had also used and said that Character Cards was a favourite activity for their students. The only drawback was that content could be printed but not saved. I found it a bit frustrating that the searches could not be narrowed down further but otherwise a great site!
iLearn Technology » Emerald Island

PhotoSoup - Yahoo!
This is a very nice word-search game on the tags associated with Flikr photos. Just type in a word (you don't need a Flikr name unless you only want to restrict the use to only your own photos) and the puzzle is created instantly. The clues to the words are the pictures around the puzzle, and the words are generated from the picture tags. For more info see Paul Hamilton's review.

FOX Broadcasting Company: Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?
A great online version of "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader" recommended by James Hollis at Teachers Love Smartboards. Really fun to play with excellent graphics.
Egyptian life
Online version of Egyptian board game, senet.
The Tale of Despereaux: Storybook Adventure
This was recommended by Kelly Tenkely at iLearn Technology. You begin by creating an avatar and selecting whether you'd like to play games during your adventure. When the story begins, your character walks through a virtual pop-up book interacting with the other characters. The graphics are phenomenal and the games are engaging. You can even play the story in different languages and email it to friends. I am not sure whether there is any real educational value here but it is totally mesmerizing and would be a way for a student who absolutely cannot write to participate in the joy of creating a book.

World Maps - geography online games
Best geography games I've seen. These are excellent tutorials and games that would work well on the SMARTBoard. The Canadian Geography activites are particularly good. For example, in the Province Names tutorial, you click on each province and its name appears on the map along with a sidebar containing information about the province. In other games, you drag the province into place on the map. World geography quizzes galore - over 250 fun online map games teach capitals, country locations, and more. Also info on the culture, history, and much more.
Educational games Childtopia
Recommended by James Hollis. Educational games. hundreds of games, learning worksheets, printing practice, listening and reading comprehension, drawing, and tales. 5 languages available. Takes a long time to load. In the Listening and Reading Comprehension activities, you have a choice of having the book read to you or reading it yourself. However, don't click on the Questions until the end of the book or it kicks you out of the program. These are excellent activities but you have to try them out first.
FreeRice
Give free rice to hungry people by playing a simple word game. This would be a fun activity for intermediate and high school students. if the words are too difficult for students, they can start back at level 1 with words like "penny" and "pony". You can also change the subject at the top of the screen to practice grammar, geography, time tables, and other skills. Warning...it's completely addictive.
