Nancy Pelosi spends $2,993 on flowers

-
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) spent $2,993 in taxpayer money on flowers between June and October.
-
House Majority Whip James Clyburn has a thing for Chantilly Donuts, spending about $265 at the Virginia shop in the past quarter.
-
And Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.), a fiscal conservative, decided to give about $2,000 in unused office funds back to the government to help reduce the deficit.
-
These expenditures – culled from thousands of line items released Monday by the Chief Administrative Officer of the House – are just a fraction of the $300 million spent last quarter by House offices.
-
But while the bulk of congressional office spending goes to salaries and routine office expenses,
-
some of the line items offer a window into the personalities and priorities of each congressional office.
-
Pelosi, who has come under fire in the past for spending on flowers, also spent roughly $30,610 in food and beverage and about $2,740 on bottled water, contributing to the nearly $120,531 total from all congressional leadership accounts.
-
Her offices defended the charges, saying the Speaker’s office holds more ceremonial events with visiting dignitaries than other congressional offices.
-
They also use a local florist, and about a third of her flower expenses this quarter were for Jack Kemp’s funeral.
-
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) racked up about $24,617 in catering costs.
-
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) spent about $1,561 in bottled water
-
and House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) spent no money on water but a touch over $18,000 in food.
-
House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) spent about $24,116 on food and beverage.
-
These line by line expenditures used to come just in bound green books, but for the first time ever, Pelosi requested that the reports also be put online this quarter.
-
The nearly 3,400 digitized pages were released Monday afternoon and touted by Pelosi as expanding “accountability to taxpayers and the press.”
-
Most of the expenditures seem standard – everything from individual staff salaries to office supplies is listed.
-
Most offices order food from the Capitol Host in-house catering service, but others order from outside locales.
-
Clyburn, for example, frequently purchases donuts for his office from Chantilly Donuts in Virginia, where he spent about $265 in the period stretching from June until the end of September.
-
One of the biggest line items for congressional offices outside of salaries tends to be the pricy subscriptions to Congressional Quarterly, which produces high end legislative tracking products, a magazine and a daily publication.
-
Cantor and Boehner together spent $69,832.50 on the company’s publications – Boehner spent $48,085 on CQ publications.
-
Money is spent on everything from security services for district offices to thousands in mileage reimbursements for individuals’ cars.
-
Lawmakers appear to have great flexibility on what qualifies as an office expense.
-
Taxpayers foot the bill for leasing cars for members, including cars for Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) and Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas).
-
Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) spent $28,410 with a market communications firm to send a newsletter to his constituents, querying them on issues ranging from the closing of the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, earmark reform and health care.
-
A spokesman said it was sent to 196,000 constituents and is just “one of the many tools Congressman Kirk uses to communicate with constituents.”
-
Some even have money left over to give back to the government.
-
Walz and Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) both returned about $2,500 to cut away at the deficit.
-
Bachus, a fiscal conservative, said he does not take cost-of-living increases in the middle of a congressional term.
-
Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the amounts Nancy Pelosi’s office spent on flowers and James Clyburn’s office spent on donuts.

H.R. 1388 And You
-
Posted by
JRed -
For those who rely on the mainstream media for all of their news this is probably going to be a complete shock to you. Sorry about that, but the truth these days is rarely a pleasant thing.
-
Are you familiar with H.R. 1388 otherwise known as "The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act" ("The GIVE Act" for short) that was recently passed by both the House and the Senate paving the way for its implementation here in America? If not, you will be sooner than later.
-
What is all the fuss about? Well, nothing as long as you're ok with the federal government taking away your First and Thirteenth Amendment rights. You know, those little things like freedom of speech and freedom from involuntary servitude.
-
Interesting. I thought that America was the “Land of the Free,” but it appears that I was wrong.
-
Interestingly enough, the House version of the Bill that was approved included Section 6104, which required that a commission be established to investigate: "Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable MANDATORY service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds."
-
Thankfully, I just read today that this provision was eliminated from the Senate version that was also approved.
-
However, Section 1203/120 is still there and that says: "service-learning is a MANDATORY part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency."
-
Add Sticky NoteThey even have a "Senior Corps" built into this plan for people over 55! So, for those of you who think it's a "good thing" to get our nation's youth more involved in their communities you might want to think about how you would feel to be forced by your government to serve their causes - - not your own.
- Seniors..those 55 years old and older also required to serve. - on 2009-03-31
-
The truth is that the economy is a mess, wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in several other covert locations have stretched the U.S. military beyond the breaking point, and many American cities need to be rebuilt.
-
So, how can the government address all these challenges? Easy! They will use the cheap, conscripted labor of young people to get things fixed. There's a name for that you know. It's called involuntary servitude, but I prefer to call it legalized slavery.
-
Before you send me hate mail or light up the Comments Section arguing that I'm "against volunteerism" you should know that I'm all for people volunteering their time to the community.
-
Besides, "volunteering" is not the issue here, as this is yet another example of the Liberal Left's uncanny ability to frame a debate using semantics to their advantage.
-
In any event, I have long said that if everyone quit being so selfish that we would be better off.
-
However, It is our neighbors that make life good - - not the government. Even in my life, I can remember having neighbors who looked out for my family and me, and that is the way it should be.
-
With this new Bill it is possible that any able bodied person will have to volunteer their time to some sort of service of which the government will determine.
-
This is interesting because as I remember it, we have the Thirteenth Amendment, which reads:
Section 1.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2.
Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. -
Despite all the warnings leading up to the Election, people refused to believe that this was even possible even though we had Barack Obama telling us as much in his own words on the campaign trail:
-
So, is it any surprise then to see this come to fruition?
-
This is the important first step that puts this country on track to seeing his vision for this become a reality.
-
In addition, this is precisely what some in the Obama administration have been eyeing for quite some time. In fact, President Obama's new Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, is the coauthor of a book that calls for, among other things, compulsory national service for all Americans between the ages of 18 to 25.
-
The following quotes are from pages 61-62 of the book Emanuel coauthored in 2006 entitled "The Plan: Big Ideas for America":
"It's time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, All Americans between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service. -
Here's how it would work. Young people will know that between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five, the nation will enlist them for three months of civilian service. They'll be asked to report for three months of basic civil defense training in their state or community, where they will learn what to do in the event of biochemical, nuclear or conventional attack; how to assist others in an evacuation; how to respond when a levee breaks or we're hit by a natural disaster.
-
These young people will be available to address their communities' most pressing needs."
-
Check our Mr. Emanuel talking about the same thing here:
-
To reiterate, I'm not against "volunteerism," but against the government telling us what we have to do.
-
We will raise out kids and teach them to sacrifice their precious time and resources out of a genuine need of wanting to help others because it's the right thing, and we will let them choose the manner in which they do those things. They won't be doing what the government tells them to do, when the government tells them to do it because that completely contradicts the entire meaning of the world "volunteerism."
-
Then again, I guess we should be used to these kinds of re-definitions lately. After all, we're still being sold the ridiculous notion that somehow the economic policies passed recently are not Socialist in any way. Anyone still believe that?
-
It doesn't end there I'm afraid. Let's not forget that the Act also includes the provision that takes away First Amendment rights (Section 1304/125).
-
Let’s also look at amendment 12 to this Bill, which reads:
"Amendment to prohibit organizations from attempting to influence legislation; organize or engage in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes; and assist, promote, or deter union organizing."
To me, this provision is just as bad if not worse. So, we can all say goodbye to First and Thirteenth Amendments I guess. Again, with barely a whimper from those who are entrusted with protecting us by alerting us to these facts. -
I know there will be some supporters of this Act who don't see what the "big deal" is, and who will probably point to the existing federal law that requires us having to register with the Selective Service at 18 years of age as a similar example, and I agree - - but only to an extent.
-
The critical difference is that you're merely registering and not being forced to actually do anything. This administration, by pushing and passing this Bill, is making it crystal clear that they have no problems forcing people to do what they think we should do even if we disagree with them. Taking our money and using it however they see fit, obviously, wasn't enough for them so now they want to take our time and freedom to do as we choose away as well. It's purely a philosophical difference as opposed to merely a political one.
-
This is is "hope" and "change," huh? Taking away a person's First and Thirteenth Amendment rights if they join this Youth Brigade?
-
Yes, once again, conscripts would be prohibited from “organizing or engaging in protests” (Section 1304/Section 125) or even from participating in a variety of religious activities if they join!
-
Wait, I almost forgot that is isn't even voluntary, but a MANDATORY program.
-
Love the name of this Bill too - - "The GIVE Act". This administration certainly is all about take, take, take while we're supposed to just give, give, give, and all without a peep from the mainstream press or those who claim they're defenders of the First Amendment like the ACLU. Nice.
-
One more thing. In any form, government-compelled "service" is an assertion of state ownership of the individual, and a violation of the most fundamental property right, which is self-ownership.
-
In the Western tradition of individual liberty under law, no other human being, either individually or acting as part of a collective, can properly claim ownership over any part of our lives, or the product of our exertions, without our consent.
-
That consent can be expressed through contract, commerce, covenant, or charity. It cannot properly be obtained through coercion or fraud.
-
Thomas Jefferson, in a letter written to John Adams during the War for Independence, referred to conscription as "the last of all oppressions." If the state can steal you - - not just your labor, but your physical being - - as those controlling it see fit, you have no rights.
-
You know, all of this makes me wonder if the rage of the masses was being purposely pumped up and focused on AIG Executives to divert public attention from the real scoundrels - - our elected officials -
-
as well as my suspicion that the whole issue might well be a big distraction from other goings-on Obama&Co. would prefer not to have the public notice. What else are we supposed to think?
-
How is all of this relevant in an end times prophecy forum?
-
We students of prophecy know that a conspiracy has existed since the beginning of time thanks to Satan.
-
We also know what will happen during those final 7 years, which are staring us squarely in the face now. A tyrannical government will rise up and force all the nations and its peoples to go along with it on every conceivable issue and policy position.
-
Dissenters will be dealt with accordingly and Christians will be persecuted to the ends of the Earth.
-
Their leader will be the Antichrist and he will seek nothing less than total control and domination over everyone and everything on this entire planet.
-
Simply put, the stage is being set and each and every time our basic and cherished freedoms are taken away we're just one step closer to seeing the fulfillment of those prophecies for the last days.
-
Now is the time to prepare yourself, your family, your friends, and complete strangers for what's coming. Cling to the Lord and pray for the Blood of Jesus Christ to wash over you and protect you from his righteous judgment and wrath.
-
If you're not too sure where to start try these simple prayers:
"Father God, I know I need You because I am a sinner, but also know that I can never get to You on my own. There's nothing I can do on my own to make up for my sins; nothing I could do on my own to earn favor and forgiveness from You or to secure my place in Heaven when I die. The only thing I can do is to make a conscious decision that You sent Your one and only Son Jesus Christ, and that He came to this world for me. He took my sins upon Himself, was crucified in my place, died for me, and was resurrected so that I may live forever. I accept Him and His sacrifice, and desperately want to receive Your Son Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. When He conquered death for my sake He gave me access to You. Thank You for Your grace and Your mercy. Thank You for forgiving me and for sending the Holy Spirit to transform my life from this moment forward. I pray that You transform my life from this day forward and give me a heart and a mind that desires to not only get to know You, but to be with You as much as possible. Teach me how to live, and teach me how to share this message with others before it's too late for them. Amen." -
"Dear Lord, I pray that you will not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions. Please think of me according to Your mercy and for Your goodness' sake, O Lord. Lord I turn from all of those sins that I committed and I ask for Your help in washing the memory and thoughts of that sin completely from my mind. Please restore me to faithful obedience to Your Word, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit anew, so that I may keep Your commands all the days of my life. Lord Jesus, I invite you into my heart anew today, and I ask forgiveness for all of my sin. Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins and for forgiving me of them through your shed blood for me on the cross. Please take away all the sinful 'old things' in my heart that defile me, and replace them with the 'good things' that you desire to grow in to my life. Please wash away all the sinful crud and tendencies toward evil and replace them with a hunger and thirst for your righteousness. I need your help, Lord God, in living this new life in Christ. Please send your Holy Spirit afresh into my life to help me, heal me, lead me and transform me. I also pray that your shed blood washes over me, protects me, and that I am counted worthy to escape the things that are coming upon this world in the form of your righteous judgment. Lastly, I pray that you have mercy on this nation even though we deserve your fierce judgment for our blatant sins that are before you. Help us to see the error in our ways as individuals and as a nation, and lead us to repentance before it's too late for us. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

said...Speaking of big government that just keeps getting bigger: this H.R. 1388 fits in under the umbrella of another agenda I've been following for the past couple of days, from our new administration. What these things have in common is a move towards control of every aspect of our lives.
- Tracy B.
-
They are trying to track people buying baby chicks now, of all things; those who have small backyard flocks such as myself (I currently have 3 chickens; adding five).
-
It's expensive to mandate this nationwide, so some states are trying it at places like Tractor Supply Company, where some people buy chicks in the spring (now). They're taking down mandatory personal information of buyers, including address and driver's licenses, in states like Texas and a few others. Has many people's feathers ruffled, to say the least.
-
And, p.s., it's more about taxes and control than it is about a possible Avian bird flu epidemic. If anything, backyard flock owners are the sentinels for large poultry producers because it would hit us first. Would give them time to scramble, thus benefiting our country's agric. system.

Subject: Codex -
Ken,
I have just started researching Codex Alimentarius. It is
horrifying. I found a site that calls for a petition signature,
however I'm afraid of what list my name may be put on if I do sign.
Regardless, the reason I am writing is to reply to your reply about
growing nutritious foods at home. The reason Codex is so scary is that
they will essentially outlaw growing without a permit. Not only will
you not be able to obtain and pay for nutrients, you will not be able
to grow them either!

Hi Holly, -
Anything's possible, but I don't think that would fly, nor be possible to enforce anyway. No one would obey such lunacy.
-
As it is, much of the pressure to become a NWO slave will begin to blowback on the NWO manipulators as more and more people realize just how serious and evil the NWO is and will begin to organize to resist.
-
We wouldn't have to go through such turmoil and pain if we simply realized that most members of congress are NWO sell-outs and need to be kicked out of office and replaced by legislators loyal to the People and the Constitution.
-
I don't care how young, dumb or unknown the candidate is, if he's truly loyal to the Constitution and understands the NWO takeover game and is willing to fight back, then we need to vote him in, and see to it that the current crop of traitors are voted out.
-
It's not that hard to do if ENOUGH PEOPLE realized what's taking place in this country and stop listening to mainstream propaganda news and started organizing on the grass roots level like the Green Party did recently in putting up Cynthia McKinney and Rosa (somebody) for President and VP from the Green Party.
-
Now I don't for a second believe that Cynthia McKinney has the brains, savoir faire, skill, experience, strength, or intestinal fortitude to be a competent President of the United States, and I know that Rosa is a joke, but I would rather vote for two jack-dumb loyal constitutionalists willing to fight rather than a slick, smooth talking sell-out Illuminati puppet like Obama or McCain any day of the week.
-
The American colonists completely shut down King George's Stamp Act imposition by simply going after everyone who attempted to collect the unjust taxes.
-
They ran them out of town, looted their homes and burned their houses down.
-
The Stamp Act and all the tyranny that it represented collapsed overnight because the colonists had no intention of sitting still for such blatant injustice.
-
We need to start putting names on a list and target these people for removal from office. Nancy Pelosi would be an excellent start, but everyone who signed the recent FISA act needs to be kicked out of office.
-
After you forsake the opportunity to vote them out, you will be left with no other choice other than to fight in the street or to submit to Nazi style slavery or extermination.
-
It's much easier to vote them out while you still have the opportunity. The alternative is called the French Revolution, and that's not going to be so much fun.
