OTTAWA — Future Canadian soldiers could be wearing new uniforms designed to provide camouflage on the streets of our largest cities.

The Defence Department will know by March what designs might work for what is being called a Canadian Urban Environment Pattern.

Those designs are to be based on the "unique requirements" of the urban settings of Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto, according to an outline of the project being co-ordinated by scientists at Defence Research and Development Canada in Suffield, Alta.

Ottawa, the nerve centre of government and the military, was left off the list because it doesn't rate as a major metropolitan centre.

"We're not trying to slight any city in the country," explained Scott Duncan, head of the soldier and systems protection group at DRDC Suffield. "We chose the three largest urban centres to have baseline data in this early development project."

Duncan said the $25,000 study to come up with camouflage patterns did not necessarily mean a new uniform would be produced for the Canadian Forces anytime soon.

Once the patterns are determined, the results will be presented to the Canadian military and it will be up to the leadership on how to proceed, he added.

"If you were to refer back to the Canada First Defence Strategy, one of the principal mandates that has been given to our military is that they must provide protection to the citizens of Canada and help exercise Canadian sovereignty," Duncan said.

"Given our large urban population, should any operations be required, there's a good probability that some of them will be taking place in urban environments."

However, Eric Graves, the editor of Soldier Systems Daily, a U.S. website that reports on the uniform and equipment industry, questioned whether it made sense to have camouflage based on the landscape of Canadian cities.

Various studies indicate the world's population in developing nations is becoming more focused in urban areas and military officers often talk about future warfare being in those areas.

"It makes zero sense for the Canadian military to produce an urban pattern based on their own cities unless they plan on fighting there," Graves noted.
"If that's the case, then it is the perfect choice."

Still, Graves said, if the Canadian military strategy is to continue supporting the United Nations and NATO on its operations, "the answer is that they have to take a broader look, and develop a pattern more suited to use in ungoverned or under-governed areas that are rapidly urbanizing."

The contract for the Canadian camouflage pattern was awarded to HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp. in Maple Ridge, B.C.

The original contract requirement from DRDC Suffield noted that the current military uniform to protect against chemical, biological and radiological substances was available in only the desert and temperate woodland patterns.

Clement Laforce, deputy director general for DRDC Suffield, said the patterns that would be produced are not just for chemical or biological protective suits, but also for general use for the Canadian Forces.

An urban camouflage uniform was designed in the U.S. in the 1990s based on slate grey patterns. It is used by some U.S. police tactical teams, U.S. special forces on urban missions and a number of foreign special forces and law enforcement units.

However, Duncan said uniforms designed for a U.S. urban environment might not work in a Canadian setting.

"There's factors such as light, the amount and types of vegetation and weather patterns," he said. "These are all parameters you take into consideration when you develop these patterns."

With the demise of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America and the restructuring of many of its key priorities under the banner of the North American Leaders Summit, other trilateral initiatives are also passing on the mantle of deep continental integration.

In a news release the group describes itself as, “a community of Canadian, Mexican and American thought leaders whose purpose is to advance a shared vision of North America, and to contribute to improved relations among the three countries.”

It goes on to say that, “They come together annually to explore linkages among the mutually reinforcing goals of security, prosperity and enhanced quality of life.”

Meetings are co-chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State, George Schultz, former Premier of Alberta, Peter Lougheed, as well as former Mexican Finance Minister Pedro Aspe.

The North American Forum has no business office and no business address.

It consists of the three co-chairs, along with their extensive network of contacts in government, business and the military, meeting privately to champion North American integration.

The news release also stated that, “This year’s meeting of the North American Forum focused on the need for Canada, Mexico and the United States to work together in responding to the global economic crisis and promoting a quick return to strong and sustainable growth.

In addition, the Forum included special sessions on two critical issues: one on energy and the environment, and the other on transnational crime, arms smuggling and drug trafficking.”

It notes that, “In the aftermath of NAFTA and the SPP initiatives, a vacuum presently exists in developing a vision for North American prosperity.

The Future of North America Summit presented by the Standing Commission on North American Prosperity was scheduled to take place on November 2-3 of this year in Toronto, Canada. It was reported that the Summit was cancelled, but there is no indication if it will take place at a later date.

The meetings would have included the participation of past political heavyweights such as former Mexican President Vicente Fox, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush, former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, as well as former Chilean President Ricardo Lagos Escobar.

The agenda would have dealt with economic, environmental and climate change, energy, trade, transportation, along with other issues and how they relate to North America.

In a recent article Manuel Pérez-Rocha, director of the NAFTA Plus and the SPP Advocacy Project, raised some valid questions concerning the meetings.

He stated, “Are we going back to the future? Why are these former leaders ‘representing’ countries they don’t run any more? Is their purpose to dictate to our actual presidents what to do to build North America? Why was ex president Lagos from Chile invited at all?”

What is clear is that with the SPP no longer the vehicle being used to create a North American Union, other groups and initiatives are further advancing deep continental integration.

The 2009 meeting of the NAFTA Free Trade Commission was held in Dallas, Texas on October 19 of this year and brought together top trade officials from the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

The meeting was used as an opportunity to celebrate NAFTA’s achievements and to plot a course for the future.

Manuel Pérez-Rocha stated, “What the three governments are really doing is incorporating the already-buried, George W. Bush-led Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) agenda into NAFTA.

While current presidents are stripping the SPP label, which has garnered much negative publicity, they’re keeping its principles to armor NAFTA as an instrument for further deregulation.”

He also said that, “the merging of the SPP prosperity agenda into NAFTA is evident, especially after the recent Dallas meeting. In their declaration, the trade officials stated that since 2007, the three countries have worked together to protect and enforce intellectual property rights.

This was one of the SPP’s plans, together with a ‘framework for regulatory cooperation,’

a ‘North American plan for avian and pandemic influenza,’

and an ‘agreement for cooperation on energy science and technology,’ which are also well under way.”

Mexico is scheduled to host the next NAFTA Commission meeting in 2010.

Despite the demise of the SPP, many of its key objectives have already been implemented or continue to move forward through other initiatives.

Speaking at the annual policy forum of the Canadian American Business Council held in Montreal on October 21, U.S. ambassador to Canada David Jacobson said that there are no immediate plans to reopen NAFTA.

He also echoed Washington’s sentiments that the trade agreement is working well for all sides. This could not be further from the truth as NAFTA is badly flawed.

Minus a few cosmetic changes that the Obama administration might make regarding side deals related to labor and the environment, the reality is that NAFTA will remain intact.

The NAFTA structure is also being used to advance SPP objectives.

All the talk of renegotiating the agreement appears to have revived the 15 year old trade accord and renewed the push for North American integration. This could lead to NAFTA’s expansion into a North American Union and might serve to further spread its failed model to other parts of the Western Hemisphere.

A PROMISING young Canadian singer and musician has died after
two coyotes attacked her while she was hiking alone in a national
park in Nova Scotia. -
Taylor Mitchell, 19, a folk singer-songwriter from Toronto, who
had recently been promoting her new album, was on a trail in Cape
Breton Highlands National Park on Tuesday when the attack
occurred. -
She was flown to a Halifax hospital in a critical condition and
died on Wednesday morning. -
A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswoman said other hikers
had heard Mitchell's screams and called emergency police
dispatchers. -
Police who were in the area reached the scene quickly and shot
one coyote, apparently wounding it. But the wounded animal and
another got away. -
Paul Maynard, of Emergency Health Services, said Mitchell was
already in a critical condition when paramedics arrived and had
multiple bite wounds over her body. -
''She was losing a considerable amount of blood from the
wounds,'' he said. -
Germaine LeMoine, public affairs officer for Parks Canada, said
of the attack: "This wouldn't even be considered a yearly event. -
It's extremely rare in the history of the park."

Coyotes, also known as prairie wolves, are found from Central
America to the US and Canada. -
Wildlife biologist Bob Bancroft said coyote attacks were
extremely rare because the animals were usually shy. He said it was
possible the coyotes had thought Mitchell was a deer or other
prey. -
"It's very unusual and is not likely to be repeated," Mr
Bancroft said. "We shouldn't assume that coyotes are suddenly going
to become the big bad wolf." -
Parks Canada has blocked the entrance to the trail where
Mitchell was attacked and officials were trying to find the animals
to determine what prompted such an unusual attack. -
''There have been some reports of aggressive animals so it's not
unknown,'' said Helene Robichaud, the park's superintendent. ''But
we certainly never have had anything so dramatic and tragic.'' -
Mitchell was an up-and-coming folk and country musician who was
nominated for a 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award in the Young
Performer of the Year category for her debut album, For Your
Consideration. -
''Words can't begin to express the sadness and tragedy of losing
such a sweet, compassionate, vibrant and phenomenally talented
young woman,'' Lisa Weitz, Mitchell's manager, said in an
email. -
''She just turned 19 two months ago and was so excited about the
future.'' -
Reactions to her death appeared on her Facebook fan page.

"I miss you so much Taylor," a fan wrote. "You'll always be in
our hearts." -
Another fan said: "Give thanks and praises that you touched our
lives with your songs and your dancing fingers … sing on

NEW YORK – The integration of the United States with Canada and Mexico, long deemed by many as little more than a fanciful "conspiracy theory," was actually an idea promoted by the Council on Foreign Relations and sold to President Bush as a means of increasing commerce and business interests throughout North America, according to a top Canadian businessman.

Thomas d’Aquino, CEO and president of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives – the Canadian counterpart to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce – confirmed in an interview recently published in Canada the accuracy of what WND first reported over three years ago:

namely, that the Council on Foreign Relations was the prime mover in establishing the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP.
-
Published by the Metropolitan Corporate Counsel Oct. 4, the d’Aquino interview verifies that the creation of the SPP was not a "conspiracy theory" but a well-thought-out North American integration plan launched by his organization, the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, along with the Council on Foreign Relations in the United States.
-
According to d'Aquino, President Obama wants to continue North American integration under the renamed North American Leaders Summit, provided the North American Competitiveness Council can be recast to include more environmentalists and union leaders.

In the interview, d'Aquino traced the origin of SPP to his concerns, following the terrorist attacks on 9/11, that "there was a pressing need to keep the border open for commerce while simultaneously addressing the security needs of the United States and North America as a whole."

With this goal in mind, d'Aquino explained that the CCCE by 2003 had "launched an agenda that we called the North American Security and Prosperity Initiative, or NASPI."

As WND reported in July 2007, the term "Security and Prosperity" was first used by the Canadian Council of Chief Executives in a January 23, 2003, report titled "Security and Prosperity: Toward a New Canada-United States Partnership in North America."

"We recruited John Manley on Canada's side, along with William Weld, former governor of Massachusetts, and Pedro Aspe, the former Mexican economy minister, who had been so influential in promoting NAFTA."

The result was a CFR Task Force on the Future of North America created on Oct. 15, 2004, and chaired by Manley, Weld and Aspe, precisely as d'Aquino had recommended to Haass.

The CFR Task Force on the Future of North America issued an executive summary, titled "Creating a North American Community," that was issued March 14, 2005, just days before the March 23, 2005, trilateral summit at Waco, Texas, in which President George W. Bush, then-Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and then-Mexican President Vicente Fox declared the Security and Prosperity Partnership on their own authority, without any approval from the U.S. Congress.

The final task force report, titled "Building a North American Community," was issued in March 2005, immediately following the Waco summit. (Read highlights of the controversial 59-page CFR report – including calls for increased financial aid to Mexico, the creation of a security border perimeter around all of North America, a reduction in border security between the U.S. and Mexico, and the creation of a new North American tribunal to settle disputes.)

D'Aquino agrees that the Council on Foreign Relations task force was instrumental to the trilateral summit in Waco during which the SPP's existence was declared, saying in the interview: "The result of all these efforts [by the CFR Task Force on the Future of North America] was that in 2005, Prime Minister Martin, President Bush and President Fox decided to sign what they called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America – the SPP."

WND has consistently reported that the two reports issued by the CFR Task Force on the Future of North America constituted the "blueprint" for the SPP unveiled at the Waco summit meeting.

The final CFR report included on page xvii a concise statement of purpose: "The Task Force's central recommendation is establishment by 2010 of a North American economic and security community, the boundaries of which would be defined by a common external tariff and an outer security perimeter."

D'Aquino also confirmed, as WND had previously reported, that the North American Competitiveness Council was hand-picked by the Chambers of Commerce in the three countries, without any legislative approval from any of the three nations.

"At their next summit meeting, in 2006, the three leaders invited leading members of the CEO communities in the three countries to provide private-sector input on issues related to competitiveness," he continued. "From that idea, the North American Competitiveness Council (NACC) was born, to be composed of 10 frontline CEOs from each of Canada, the United States and Mexico." That plan was implemented.

"We produced 10 of our most senior CEOs while the Americans established an executive committee of 15 representing a broad range of large companies with rotating memberships. The Mexicans produced some heavy-duty people – many names you know well."

As WND reported at the time, the North American Competitiveness Council dominated the third annual SPP summit meeting held in Montebello, Quebec, in Aug. 2007, a fact confirmed by the interview with d'Aquino.

"The first meeting of the NACC with the three leaders took place in Montebello, Quebec, in 2007," d’Aquino acknowledged. "Our Mexican and American counterparts graciously asked us to write the first NACC report. It was very well received, albeit heavily criticized by unions on the left and others as elitist: 'Why did these people have access to the national leaders while everyone else was left out?'"

The NACC continued to advise SPP leaders behind closed doors at the fourth annual SPP summit meeting held in New Orleans, in April 2008, as WND reported and as d'Aquino now confirms: "The second meeting of the NACC with the three leaders took place at their summit in New Orleans in 2008 – we were in the room with the leaders for a full hour and a half."

Whereas Bush was sold on the SPP initiative as a means of enhancing business and commerce in North America, d'Aquino explained, Obama would continue with the SPP only if more environmentalists and union leaders were included in the private advisory group that had consisted entirely of business leaders under the aegis of the NACC.

"When President Obama came to power, he faced a lot of pressure to shelve the SPP and not follow through with the NACC because his advisers were looking for an institution that would also involve environmentalists, union leaders, et al."

D'Aquino argued that the NACC should continue, and, as WND has reported, the Obama administration is continuing the previous administration's pursuit of North American integration.

"But at the North American Leaders Summit in Guadalajara this summer, President Calderon and Prime Minister Harper both told President Obama that the NACC was very useful," d'Aquino said.

"In fact, the Canadian NACC group met with our prime minister and his key ministers for an hour and a half on the eve of his departure for the Guadalajara summit. He said that, regardless of whether the NACC continues formally on a trilateral basis, he welcomes our advice on trilateral issues."

WND has regularly reported that the unannounced goal of the SPP was to create a North American Union, similar to the European Union, by advancing the trade integration realized in NAFTA into continental political integration through the creation of some 20 trilateral bureaucratic working groups and the North American Competitiveness Council, composed of 30 North American business executives hand-picked, 10 each by the Chambers of Commerce of the three countries.

The Obama administration is continuing the SPP initiative under the "rebranded" and "refocused" banner of the less controversially renamed North American Leaders Summit that first met with Obama in Guadalajara, Mexico, last August.

Likewise in Brazil, an American business writer, Joseph Sharkey, is on trial for what he wrote about Brazilian air-traffic controllers after he survived an airplane crash in Brazil.

VANCOUVER — The B.C. government's Vancouver Island wolf extermination program allowed "monster" hybrids to take over the region, a team of scientists said.

From the 1920s until the 1970s, provincial officials tried to rid Vancouver Island of wolves so sport hunters would find it easier to hunt black-tailed deer, the wolves' principal prey.
-
So when a few hardy wolves swam across from the northern B.C. mainland in the early 1980s, some were unable to find mates.
Instead, they mated with stray dogs.
-
The result, according to researchers from the University of Sweden, the Smithsonian Institution and the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, was something never documented before in the wild: animals that were neither wolves nor dogs.
-
Their research is published in the latest edition of the journal Conservation Genetics.
-
So-called wolf hybrids are bred purposely by some breeders as pets, though they are regarded by animal welfare groups as potentially dangerous.
They had never been documented in the wild before.

"If the wolf-control campaign had carried on and kept wild wolves at low levels, we would have had, potentially, a population of monster wolves on Vancouver Island," Raincoast biologist and University of California post-doctoral researcher Chris Darimont said in an interview.
-
"What our work found is an historical signal of tremendous ecological and social imbalance among wolves as a result of government wolf control."

Darimont said the 200 or so wolves that now live on Vancouver Island are not "monsters."
-
It's likely, he said, that the hybrids born in the 1980s were unable to survive in the wild and therefore unable to propagate.

Instead, the wolves who were able to find wolf mates became the ancestors of the small population of wild Vancouver Island wolves that now exists.
Wolves can have as many as five pups a year.

"Wolf control is indefensible ethically. I think most British Columbians would agree with that," Darimont said. "What this study contributes to the discourse is additional ecological evidence that wolf control is a very bad idea indeed."

But B.C. government officials dismissed the study's findings.

"While certainly interesting, the research presented here looks at a situation with a very small and geographically isolated sub-population of wolves that resulted from broad-scale eradication attempts early in the previous century. While the genetic conclusions may be relevant in situations where conservation is a concern . . . that situation is not one that represents the current status of grey wolves in B.C.," the government said in a statement.

LOCATION DETAILS: request that I can't give location at this time.
(note - location details were given during phone interview, but header location is only an approximation to protect the integrity of the actual sighting area) -
OBSERVED: We were driving down a two lane highway that had no streetlights. I seen something on the road ahead of us. I told the driver to slow down, and I looked out the right side passenger door window into a field to scan for deer coming from the right field toward the road, thinking it was deer on the road.

I seen open fields with sparse trees, fog in the fields, backed by dense pine forest.

At that point I was able to see all this detail because of the bright moonlight. I didn't see any deer in the field or in the ditch on the right side of the road.

All of a sudden the car slowed down and jolted me forward, drawing my attention back to what was on the road in front of us. I commented to the driver about her heavy foot and hitting a deer that we had seen a mile away.

She say's "it's not a deer" which made me focus on the animal moving to the left side of the road.

What I saw looked like a large male baboon moving like a rabbit on the two front legs then back legs, rump is down, move to the edge of the road sit down and look to it's left in our general direction.

I say, slow right down and shine the headlights on it. She does the opposite we are as far to the right of the highway as we could be and we are about to roll on by this thing sitting there without confirming what it was. Not while I'm on point. I grab the wheel with my left hand and crank the wheel hard to the left now we are heading straight for it and the ditch.

This animal looks at us, looks straight ahead like its going to jump the ditch then it looked or flinched to the right because I thought we were going to hit it for sure if it crossed the highway.

And then darkness took over and we stopped with a hard jolt. When I grabbed the wheel the driver hit the brakes and cranked the wheel hard to the right we come to a complete stop perfectly straightened out one foot from the left shoulder and within 5 feet of the animal

The driver turns the car off and everything goes black. My first reaction was, what the bleep, the driver says “take your hands off the wheel right now“, and I do pleading my case. I say "hurry up and turn the high beams on before it takes off"

All of a sudden she turns the interior light on and flashes all our eyes and now what ever that thing is, it can see us instead of the headlights shinning in it's eyes. Finally she turns the interior out and the low beams on.

There it is, about 10 to 15 feet away and it looks like it's crawling unnaturally low to the asphalt, away from the hood of the car.

It looked to the right like it was, exit stage right, ditch. But it turned to the left, head low ,moved to the very edge of the ash fault, gather it's back end above the feet and legs and looked like it was going to jump the ditch again.

But it doesn't, it does the rabbit move two front then two back move and it stops sits and looks to the left at us.
-
It's about one foot away from the edge of the ash fault in a sitting crouched position, head up, on gravel shoulder.

I tell driver hit the high beams and lets roll by. She starts heading back to the other lane and I grab the wheel again and straiten it out and we rolled by within two feet of the animal, very slow.

It would not look at us when we rolled by, just then the driver blocked my view out her side window. I beeped the horn and looked out the driver side back door window, it was not there.

We drove back to the other lane and stopped , I can see a vehicles’ lights coming towards us down the highway but pretty far away. We discuss going back to investigate but decided not to and then discussed what we saw and then left.

These are details of what I saw: pointed head, no tail, no butt pad, and the hair is all short except on it's face, and its even shorter the closer to the eyes, mouth and nose. The hair looks an even length, 1 inch and so. It's hair looked mainly light brown, with grey undertones with flecks of black.

What I saw of the feet, they didn't look that long or big, and wide.

Little ears, a crease between head shoulders, little or no neck, head sits forward, flat face, lean body, from side view about 200 pounds.

Height in this crouch sitting position 3 to 3 and a half feet tall.
-
The only thing massive or muscular looking was it's shoulders or upper back which was kind of humped.
-
It's spine was interesting because when it looked like it was going to jump the ditch, it's spine looked straight, it held it's head high and erect. I could see the spine protruding.
-
When it did not flee it relaxed because it's spine was not protruding, the head was not erect but sat forward and you could see a skin crease in the space between the head and shoulders. The crease looked like upside down smile where the neck should be.

It's body language was not saying explode into motion anymore it was looking more relaxed, stand or squat it's ground and wait.

I noticed that it's rear end never touched the ground at any point.

Spoke with the witness at length on April 29th, 2009. His written report is quite comprehensive, however, during our phone conversation, witness retold his encounter while adding other details that were not included in his report.
-
Consequently, I shall only add the extra details that were given during our phone conversation.
-
Witness estimates that the sighting lasted for up to one minute duration.
-
The driver and passengers were northbound on their way to a vacation spot.
-
At one point during the encounter, the creature opened its mouth, as if in a defensive gesture as they approached slowly with the vehicle.
-
Witness thought four canines were visible (not particularly long, but prominent none-the-less).
-
At the moment the vehicle headlights were turned back on, it appeared as though the creature crawled away from the car towards the shoulder of the road.
-
Witness stated that it was difficult to discern if the creature was sliding along the road with its belly or otherwise.
-
Witness scanned from the feet of the creature to its head, noticing that the underside of the feet showed white while the vehicle lights shone on the creature.
-
Hair on the feet and hands was shorter in comparison to the hair on the rest of the body.
-
As well, the feet appeared wide but not long.
-
The nose appeared apelike with the nostrils pointed upward.
-
During the sighting, it appeared as though the creature contemplated making a hasty retreat. This was evident by the tensing of its body.
-
However, witness states that there was a fence parallel to the road that may have hindered the creatures escape, and consequently, induced hesitation from the creature as it perhaps contemplated its escape route.

Four of the five passenger saw the creature. The other passenger claims to have not been able to see the animal. The witnesses talked about what they'd seen after the encounter as they drove further up the road

The general consensus was that they'd seen a baboon-like creature.
-
The driver, however, commented that she thought it could be a bigfoot.
-
It was at this point that the reportee realised that the creature did not exude basic baboon physical characteristics, such as protruding, long canines, a dog-like muzzle, short tail, and rough spots on its protruding hindquarters.

Reportee likens the creature he witnessed to the subject in the Patterson film, only a much smaller than 'Patty'.
-
I plan to visit the area some time in the near future to investigate. The area of the sighting looks like it could potentially harbour a population of bigfoot. This report shall be updated should I get the opportunity to research the area.

While none may have been sighted near Bethel, New York on August 15-17 of that year, the warm months in North America saw some memorable cases, indeed. Some are famous today.

The “Minnesota Iceman” was touring the Midwest, I was tracking it down, and many sightings were occurring all the corners of North America. Some of these are still talked about today.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The U.S. Border Patrol is erecting 16 more video surveillance towers in Michigan and New York as part of its plans to use technology to help secure parts of the United States' 4,000-mile northern border with Canada.

The government awarded the $20 million project to Boeing Co., the same company responsible for the so-called virtual fence along the U.S.-Mexico border that has come under criticism for faulty technology.

Eleven of the towers are being installed in Detroit and five in Buffalo, N.Y., to help monitor water traffic between Canada and the United States along Lake St. Clair and the Niagara River.
At present, Border Patrol agents are posted along the river to keep an eye on water traffic.

Temperatures in Western Europe have gone crazy over the past few days. A week
ago Madrid was hit by a rare snowfall, and in Germany the temperature
plunged below minus 30C (minus 22F) and parts of the River Elbe froze. -
But
temperatures have risen again as the persistent high-pressure system that
brought the freeze was shunted away by a high-altitude jet stream. This
opened the way for the return of milder, wet and windy weather blowing off
the Atlantic. -
However, colder conditions are now returning, and ski slopes
across Europe are being replenished by fresh snowfalls. -
Brutal Arctic storms plunged much of Canada and the US into a deep freeze this
week. The northeast US has been hit especially hard, but the bitter cold may
ease in Washington DC by Tuesday for the President-elect’s Inauguration Day. -
However, it felt like summer over California as a heat wave broke January
temperature records. Santa Ana winds swept down from the mountains, sending
temperatures soaring to 29C (85F) in Los Angeles. -
The region is desperate
for rain after two years of intense drought, which may lead to water
rationing later this year if supplies do not improve. -
In the Philippines unseasonable heavy rains caused floods and landslides that
killed 20 people and led 300,000 to evacuate their homes. -
Fiji declared a
state of emergency after relentless downpours over five days dropped up to
91cm (36in) rain as tropical depressions drove in from the South Pacific. -
Floods left the country’s economically vital sugar crop devastated.

My husband and I were just talking about how they would use the economic woes as a means of pushing the Amero. It's frightening how much gets shoved through without the major populations' approval, that is, if they're aware of it in the first place. That in itself is so disheartening. How, many of us are totally clueless as to how screwed we are if this runaway train isn't derailed immediately.
