Channel Del.icio.us Bookmarking Live with Zoka » Solution Watch

  • The site provides a list of popular bookmarks on the left and real-time bookmarks on the right, although at times I have found that I want more with filtering of bookmarks. I want to be able to filter an individual tag and see only those bookmarks associated with that tag to come in.
  • and is a site that I have grown to love and become completely addicted to.

A Guide to Yahoo! Social Media Tools

  • Turn your site visitors into evangelists.
Yahoo! now offers several free interactive tools for publishers, bloggers,
and podcasters -- for anyone who creates content for the web. It's a breeze to
add simple action buttons to a web page to make it easy for users to share,
save, or blog about your web site.
  • These buttons are simple to set up. With basic HTML skills, you can add
interaction to your site in minutes (not hours). Here are the key steps:

Add the action button javascript to your page templates by copying and
    pasting the appropriate code below.
Customize the buttons for the look and feel of your site. (Optional.
Requires some familiarity with javascript, or a sense of adventure.)
    Test and launch.
Let us know how it goes or check back here for new tools

Social bookmarking feature wish list at blog . jiboneus

  • With an open API somebody could write a WordPress or Movable Type plug-in for it.
  • put a little code on my blog that would say, “32 people has blink this site. Would you like to blink it?” or “nobody has blink this site, would you like to be the first to blink it?”. Other social bookmark services take note on this too.

Sample showcase of Diigo's highlight / annotation / forward features

  • Last weekend I presented an Advanced Tools session at Blogher, which didn't work out exactly as planned since we lost our Internet connection in minute 2 of the session.
  • Powerblogher questions: on tagging, bookmarking and wikis

Debra Roby, one of the folks at our powerbloghers session, blogged & emailed with these questions:Tagging.

ZnetLady:ModernMediaModo: Tagging: What is it Good For?

  • It is as much a media channel as it a social experience of the content that exists within the medium.
  • these tags are thoroughly modern tags, created by everyone, for everyone turning photos, web pages or blog posts into shared mindspace

Relax, Everything Is Deeply Intertwingled: Web 2.0

  • Customers build businesses -- tons of people are putting content on the
Internet to help eBay, Google, Blogging, Amazon, Flickr, etc.

Microsoft won the browser war but saw no financial gains from the win.

All the value has migrated to the applications.

We're seeing the end of the software upgrade cycle, because Web applications
    are always up-to-date.

    "The
    Power of the Tail"
means you can have a lot of small players that all
survive. Google AdSense takes advantage of the tail.

  • There are lots of features in development, many of them social:

privacy: posts which are only visible to the poster
groups: more control for community tags like nptech with
permission model; moderated group membership, moderated posting.
network: a replacement for the dysfunctional Inbox; identify individuals you find interesting,
and see their posts and comments
federated identity: allowing users to associate their accounts with those in another community
    (MySpace, LinkedIn);
tools: better tools for "pruning the data garden"; helping the user retag, identify tags used only once.
  • Joshua identified the business model for del.icio.us as being pretty much the same as Google: advertising revenue. But the way in which the value is built is very different. In response to some questions about "auto-tagging", Joshua took issue with the idea of crawling the web for pages and pumping them into del.icio.us, even if the generated tags were accurate. Del.icio.us is full of things that individuals found useful and wanted to remember. Automated discovery would be far less valuable.

How delicious got started

  • Dave Weinberger, a fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Center for the Internet and Society who has been an early tag-vocate. “With tags we have people who use information telling us how it should be organized. And it turns out that there is a lot of wisdom.”
  • Many bloggers file their stories under category names, so that a story about the Gomery inquiry is stored under the category “Canadian politics” or “Gomery”. Technorati uses those category names as tags, so that every blog post that has been tagged as “Gomery” can be found in one place on the Technorati web site.

Yahoo Social Search, Act II. Many-to-Many:

  • The great promise, of course, is for non-bloggers to annotate the web. Which is perhaps Act III.

  • Two degrees of separation is a course model for all the facets of our identity and groups we seek to share with. Unlike a site like Flickr or del.icio.us, there is less enclosure with a web-wide search function, which may lead to social awkward social situations. Privacy issues may arise. In contrast to browse, search is a filtering function -- and this is the first large scale implementation to use social networks for their true strength -- as a filter.

My Web 2.0 | A Whole Lotta Nothing

  • Yahoo's new search is that it attempts to circumvent one of my pet peeves: search engine spammers.
