A new public wireless interface: Hivenetworks successfully launch 'Street Radio' in Southampton | The Next Layer
Hidden Histories utilises the latest in wireless communication technologies such as WIFI and Bluetooth in combination with FM radio to create listening stations where particular stories and themes can be heard.
By broadcasting audio files using very weak radio transmitters with a range of about 10 meters a selection of stories from Southampton City Council’s Oral History Archive can be heard along 10 nodal points (locations) from where byte-sized stories are transmitted. These nodes link together to form a media rich walk that transports people through the changing life of the
city. In the not too distant future we hope to supplement the audio clips with images and film clips via Bluetooth direct to your mobile phone.

Eqo ya no hace uso de Skype sino de una red propia. Te permite realizar llamadas a todo el mundo a muy bajo coste vía VOIP y gratuitas a todos los usuarios de Eqo. Tan solo tienes que tener tu movil o PDA conectado a Internet vía WIFI, cosa que, al menos hoy en España, sólo ocurre en casa y en el trabajo, donde ya tienes un fijo. En cualquier caso este el tipo de apicaciones a las que, junto a skype, no hay que perder de vista mientras las WIFI abiertas institucionales se extienden por varias ciudades del mundo.
