      Along with the new V4 version release,  Diigo annotation features went through another round of new enhancements.  Here is another cool new feature called “Highlighter Pen


      If you like to highlight several paragraphs on a page quickly, besides the usual highlight feature, another way to highlight with Diigo is to turn your mouse into a highlighter pen (very cool when you demo this):

      1. You will visually see your mouse becoming a “highlighter pen”.  Use the pen to mark up area(s) that you’d like to highlight on a webpage.
      2. When you are all done with highlighting on a page, make sure to click Highlight button again to disable the highlighter pen action

What WGU is doing is using the Internet to disaggregate the various functions of teaching: the "sage on the stage" conveyor of information, the cheerleader and helpmate, and the evaluator. WGU constantly surveys both graduates and their employers to find out if they are lacking in any competencies so they can continue to fine-tune their programs.

The movement that started at MIT has spread to more than 200 institutions in 32 countries that have posted courses online at the OpenCourseWare Consortium. But, as Wiley points out, there's still a big gap between viewing such resources as a homework aid and building a recognized, accredited degree out of a bunch of podcasts and YouTube videos. "Why is it that my kid can't take robotics at Carnegie Mellon, linear algebra at MIT, law at Stanford? And why can't we put 130 of those together and make it a degree?" Wiley asks. "There are all these kinds of innovations waiting to happen. A sufficient infrastructure of freely available content is step one in a much longer endgame that transforms everything we know about higher education."

  • This was a very interesting conversation because this was a topic that is something every real to me.  This is a topic I talk about often because I have taken part in pageants since I was ten years old. 
  • Something that I learned from this discussion was that it is a lot harder to discuss something when you do not know all of the vocabulary that I should have known.  I was able to get my point across even though it took me a little while.
