Flash Preloader - Create a Simple Flash Preloader using basic actionscript
-
- Make two layers called preloader and actions. Go to the first frame in the preloader layer and place a text displaying "Loading" on it (as shown below).

- Double click the same frame and in the frame actions tab give the following action script:
FLASH 5, MX and MX 2005
ifFrameLoaded ("end") {
gotoAndPlay ("start");
}
FLASH 4
If Frame Is Loaded ("end")
Go to and Play ("start")
End Frame Loaded
Logic: This actionscript checks if the last frame of your movie (labeled "end") is loaded and then only starts playing your flash file at the starting frame labeled "start". Thus this action script decides whether to continue the preloader loop or to break free and start playing the movie. - Now we need a frame to return to the first frame as the condition is being checked there. For this double click the fifth frame in the actions layer and give the following action script.
gotoAndPlay (1);
Logic: We just return the control to the first frame to complete a loop.
- Now click on the sixth frame in the Preloader layer and give it the label start. That's it your simple preloader is ready. Just make sure that all the stuff that you want to be displayed in your movie starts from the 6th frame and that you label the last frame of your completed movie as "end". Alternatively for Flash 5 and above you can use the following code instead of the code given in the first frame:
ifFrameLoaded (_totalframes) {
gotoAndPlay ("start");
}
Here, we have just replace the "end" frame with the inbuilt variable _totalframes which contains the total number of frames in the main movie timeline.
- We recommend you create an attractive movie clip and place it in frame 1 to make your preloader look more interesting then the plain loading text used here :-)
1. Preloader Frames: First you will have to create your preloader frames.
2. Preloader Loop: Now we need to make a loop that executes till the last frame is loaded. To make use of a very basic animation we will display three dots after the loading text to show that loading is taking place. To do this insert three key frames after the first frame in the actions layer. Now place one dot, two dots and three dots in the three frames respectively (as shown below).

frame 2 (actions layer)

frame 3 (actions layer)

frame 4 (actions layer)
Finished Flash Preloader Interface

Check if your preloader timeline matches our figure above.
Test your movie for a 64KB modem by pressing Ctrl+Enter twice. You will be able to see how the preloader progresses and then starts playing at frame "start". That's it your simple Flash preloader is ready!
- Make two layers called preloader and actions. Go to the first frame in the preloader layer and place a text displaying "Loading" on it (as shown below).

Specific information for Math 152:07-09, fall 2007
-
- A formula sheet will be provided for each exam. A copy will be
available for students several days before each exam. - No other notes or textbook material may be used during the exam.
- No electronic devices may be used during the exam. This
includes any calculators, any cellphones, and any musical devices. If
emergencies make using a cellphone mandatory, inform the instructor
before such use.
Make-up exams will be given only in the case of illness, a major
emergency, or a major outside commitment. Verification of each of
these should be done through the appropriate Dean's office, and a
written note from the Dean requesting a make up exam should be
presented to the lecturer. You will need
some form of proof (like a doctor's note, a police report, a
towing bill etc.).
If the reason for the make up is known in advance you must ask for
permission before the exam. In all other cases, you must notify the
lecturer using e-mail (preferred: greenfie@math.rutgers.edu),
by phone (at (732) 445-3074 [equipped with an answering machine]),
or through the Math Department Undergraduate Office
(at (732) 445-2390) as soon as possible.
No make ups will be granted for reasons like "the alarm clock didn't
go off", "not knowing when the exam will be", or "not feeling
prepared".
Local rules for sections 7-9
The progress of these sections (compared with ...)
It's my intention that we move at about the same pace as indicated in
the standard
course syllabus. Any serious difference with pace and content will
be noted in the course diary. Students should note the recommended
problems on the syllabus, and be able to do most of them. Students
will be requested to hand in solutions to a few of these problems
every week at recitation meetings, but those problems are intended to
be minimal homework assignments.
Due dates for textbook homework and workshop problems
Late textbook homework and late workshop writeups will generally
not be accepted.
Exam procedures
Grading
Although this is subject to change, students should expect that grades
will be determined using the following point distribution:First exam in class:
100 points
Second exam in class:100 points Final exam: 200 points Workshops: 75 points Textbook homework: 45 points Quizzes & attendance: 70 points Total: 590 points
Unannounced short quizzes may be given at any class meeting, and no
make ups will be given for these. One-point quizzes in lecture earn
full credit for any answer (!). You are responsible for attending
all class meetings. Poor attendance may be used to decide
borderline grade situations. Note, however, that students whose exam
grades are all near bare passing or are failing may fail the course in
spite of numerical averages: students must show that they can
do adequate work connected with this course independently and
verifiably.
It is my intent to write and grade the exams so that approximately the
following percentage cut-offs for letter grades can be used: 85 for an
A, 70 for a B, 55 for a C, and 50 for a D. So there are "absolute
standards" for letter grades rather than "a curve". I will be happy if
every student gets a high grade. - A formula sheet will be provided for each exam. A copy will be

HOWTO: A Contact form WITHOUT sendmail enabled...
-
Using a contact form without sendmail being enabled.
Requirements: Fsockopen() enabled and a little php/text editing knowledge (very little!)
Skill level: Easy!
A googlemail or yahoo.au.com account is required.
Download the following zip file: http://uploadingit.com/files/181711_6q627/phpmailer.zip
Unzip the file onto your desktop preserving the folder structure and you will end up with a folder called:
"phpmailer"
In here you will find various files for the script to work.
do not modify - class.smtp.php - this does the actual work.
do not modify - class.phpmailer.php - so does this one...
modify - contactform.php - the actual contact form script.
modify - sendit.php - contains the smtp server name and user/password and actually sends the mail using phpmailer.
Modifying the contact form text
Open the contactform.php in your favourite text editor (preferrable crimson editor or notepad2)
On line 12 you will see the following:Quote/******** START OF CONFIG SECTION *******/
$sendto = "receivers e-mail address goes here";
$subject = "Website Contact Enquiry";
Modifying this part:Quote// Select if you want to check form for standard spam text
$SpamCheck = "Y"; // Y or N
Y = NO http web links in message
N = Yes.. http allowed
Modify as necessary
Changing the E-mail Message
Scroll down to line 61 and you can modify the body of the e-mail message as you see fit.
Changing the form text
Scroll to line 110 - this contains the text of the form data entry page. Edit as necessary.
You can edit the form text and layout using your "favourite" graphical web editor - like MS Expression web or NVU etc.
- this has been tested as working.
I've not tested it with MS frontpage so I don't know how it handles PHP files. It probably mangles them.
As this web contact form started out as a sendmail form it has redundant code which I've left in to enable a simple return to sendmail operation if needed.
See line 94 to line 98 for the phpmailer modifications
Configuration of the sendit.php file
Open the sendit.php file in a text editor and enter your details for googlemail in the correct places.
This will also work with yahoo.co.au mail - just ammend as needed.
You may change the folder name from "phpmailer" to anything you want..
Keep all the files together in the same folder or it won't work.
Now it's ready to go...
Use your favourite uploading method and upload the file into a folder on your website - example is; "phpmailer"
To call the web form script just point your browser to:
http://mysite.110mb.com/phpmailer/contactform.php and fill in the form.
For a nice and tidy popup window as a contact form use the following code:
In your page header use:Quote<script language="JavaScript">
function MailPopUp(URL) {
day = new Date();
id = day.getTime();
eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=550,height=400,left = 340,top = 212');");
}
</script>
In the body section, where you want a contact form link, use:Quote<a href="http://www.110mb.com/javascript:MailPopUp('../phpmailer/contactform.php')"><em>CONTACT FORM</em></a>Obviously the path should reflect the location of the contactform.php file.
When you submit the form there is a close window button to tidy up the popup window.
It also works fine with popup blockers too.

ADW: Orcaella brevirostris: Information
-
The age of sexual maturity is unknown, but there is evidence that at least some dolphins reach adult size when they are four to six years old. The gestation period is estimated to be fourteen months. A neonate born in captivity in Jakarta was 96 cm long and weighed 12.3 kg. It was born twelve days after milk was first seen discharging from its mother, and the tail was observed protruding from the genital slit more than two hours before the calf was born. The calf started suckling twelve hours after birth and eating dead fishes at the age of six months. It was fully weaned by two years of age. During its first seven months, the calf increased in length by 57 cm (59%) and in weight by 32.7 kg (266%).

Average temperature for the coldest month is 20°C or above

Most plant species are very intolerant of saline conditions. Therefore,
the real importance of salt in mangrove ecosystems is that it keeps
large areas free of vegetation and allows for colonisation by the
slow growing but salt tolerant mangroves. -
lthough many
species are not totally dependent halophytes some degree of salinity
is required for optimum growth. Mangroves are essentially slow growing
plants and cannot compete with faster growing more vigorous species.
Mangal (Mangrove)
-
Ocean water generally has 33 to 38 parts of salt per thousand, and evaporation of water from the mangrove mud results in much higher salt concentrations experienced by the plants. All species that inhabit the outer (ocean-facing) portion of the mangrove swamp are halophytes, i.e., plants that are adapted to saline soils, and certain mangrove species can tolerate soils more than double the salinity of ocean water
