Miller also conducted an evaluation of Spring 2006 asking students to evaluate the effectiveness of podcasts. More than half of all respondents (n=193) indicated that they listened to at least one podcast. About two-thirds of respondents (n=74) indicated that the podcasts were moderately to extremely helpful.
Update October 2007: Updated data indicate that 37% (270/738 students over 4 semesters) listen to the podcasts, and 44% (148/340 students over 2 semesters) listen to the precasts. The majority of students believe that these enhanced their learning (69% for podcasts, 70% for precasts).
Dr. Miller reports that he's had to move his recording equipment from his office, which had room for 4-5 students, to a seminar room to accommodate the number of students (~8-12/wk.) who show up for the recording sessions.
The iCube podcast series also has hundreds of weekly listeners worldwide, and it has been listed in iTunes Higher Education Top 100 and Featured Podcasts. The series has also received national media attention and a Campus Technology Innovator Award in 2007.
